Dog of the Week: Meet Kylo Jace!

First of all, simmer down. Kylo knows how handsome he is.

He’s a nine-year old stud with a highly discerning palate. He enjoys long runs, lavender bubble baths, and having the thermostat tuned specifically to 73 degrees. He’s a great happy hour companion as long as you don’t invite your needy friends. The others are okay. He looks phenomenal in a neckerchief and has multiple ideas for matching Halloween costumes. He thinks more men should get pedicures and that weighted vests are a sign of a coming apocalypse. He does not appreciate veterinarians, mothers-in-law, and anything billed as “vegan cuisine.”

If you’re interested in meeting Kylo Jace, please send a cover letter with your Enneagram type, favorite Smartless co-host, and the actual thread count of your Egyptian cotton bedsheets to the Anne Arundel SPCA today. Kylo’s been waiting to hear from you since 2019.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Mangia? Palma? What’s happening at 81 Main Street?

Mangia, a casual Italian restaurant at 81 Main Street, has been closed on and off since covid. Right now it’s closed. Back in April, Jorge Landaverde (owner of La Sierra) told us he was opening a new restaurant there called La Palma. Days later, the Capital published a story in which Mangia’s owners denied the La Palma rumor.

  • That said, Jorge applied for multiple permits at the space, including an occupancy permit and a temporary sign permit. We and several other eyewitnesses saw the La Sierra van parked out front.

Annapolis Patch reported a few days ago that the building was being foreclosed on and sent to auction at the Anne Arundel Circuit Court yesterday morning. However, the auctioneers told Patch late Monday night that both the foreclosure and auction were cancelled.

The building is still listed on LoopNet (think Zillow for commercial real estate) for $2.35 million.

The Lovejoy Project lights up SP biz scene 🕯️

If you’ve noticed a lovely scent in the air around Severna Park lately, it might be emanating from The Lovejoy Project, a new shop on Benfield Road specializing in sustainable candles and diffusers (they also have a nice selection of home décor!). They’ll be celebrating their grand opening with the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce tomorrow, with an open house 4–5 PM and an official ribbon cutting at 4:30 PM. Stop by the shop’s location at 564 Benfield Road, Severna Park 21146.

💕 Light a candle for a good cause: Proceeds from all The Lovejoy Project’s sales go to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in memory of the owner’s mom, Judith Lovejoy Stewart.

You don’t need medicine. You need to stretch.

Don’t take it from us. Take it from the Washington Post. As reported by health and wellness columnist Gretchen Reynolds, “If your body is flexible, you’re likely to live longer than someone whose body and joints are tight and rigid, according to the first, large-scale study of the links between flexibility and mortality.” In the study by Claudio Gil S. Araujo, 3,139 men and women between ages 46 and 65 completed an evaluation of overall flexibility. Researchers followed them for more than a decade. They found that people with the stiffest joints — especially women — were substantially more likely to die prematurely than those with greater flexibility.

Assisted stretching decreases pain, improves posture and mobility, and increases longevity. One Scoop reader said StretchMed Annapolis literally changed his life. So what are you waiting for? Book your no-cost intro stretch today.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Hello Kitty truck at Annapolis Mall 🚐 🎀 🍰

Another day, another awesome truck. And, this latest one — celebrating its 10th anniversary — tugs at our inner child. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck is making a sweet pit stop at Annapolis Mall on Saturday, August 16 from 10 AM–7 PM (outside Jongro & Rodizio Grill). Treat yourself to adorable Hello Kitty merch and yummy treats — perfect for fans big and small. This global icon has been spreading smiles for 50 years, starting with a tiny coin purse in 1975. We suggest arriving early. Remember when the mall brought in Chad Michael Murray?

Annapolis Chamber Music Festival

You can probably hum a few bars of Beethoven. But what if we asked you to hum the0 bassoon’s part? That’s the beauty of chamber music: the intimate performances provide the listener an opportunity to hear the pure sound of each instrument within the greater harmony. The result is often a mesmerizing encounter with classical music. Experience it for yourself August 16–23, when the Annapolis Chamber Music Festival lands at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for five nights of concerts.

EXTRA SPRINKLES

The #2 way to make fundraisers better

What’s the first way? No idea. But the #2 way is definitely luxury bathroom trailers. People have called Royal Flush’s bathrooms the “nicest bathrooms I’ve ever seen” and “better than the bathrooms in my house.” And that’s not made-up marketing talk. Those are real quotes we’ve heard on the job. Want your guests to say the same? Studies show that guests who like the bathrooms donate more+. Call Royal Flush at 410-881-6848 to secure the finest bathrooms in town.

+ We made this up but the quotes are real
