Good morning, Annapolis. Has anybody read one of our newsletters on an Apple Vision Pro, yet?

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Year’s worth of Wendy’s 🍔

  • World’s largest diaper drive 👶

  • Rubik’s Cube contest 🤓

Let’s get to it.

Unicorn-level rarity

This is the best real estate opportunity you’ll see all week. It’s a beautiful 6 bedroom, 5 bathroom home on the Magothy River that’s 100% move in ready. Now let’s see why it’s so special.

First, it’s a new construction. There’s no updating, replacing, or renovating of any kind needed here. It’s modern, comfortable, and extremely stylish.

Second, it has a boathouse. You can’t build these anymore. The only way to get one is to buy a house that already has one.

And third, it has a heated, saltwater pool just steps from the river. Getting permits for waterfront pools is notoriously difficult. Not here. You’ll be swimming from day 1.

We could go on and on but we’ll just say one more thing. This home is also located in the Blue Ribbon Broadneck school district. There are literally no compromises to be made here. Also worth noting, it features the rare trifecta of public water, public sewer, and natural gas – a true find for a waterfront property in this area.

THE DIGEST

Student member needed for AACPL board

Last year, AACPL’s Board of Trustees brought on its first-ever student member, Linda Gayle. She’s serving through this summer. The board liked having a student member, so they’re seeking a rising junior or senior to serve a 1-year term starting August 15. Know a teen who’d be a good fit? Applications close March 8. Finalist interviews start in April and a board vote is slated for May 16. Learn more.

SOUPer Bowl raises $8K for Light House

Sunday wasn’t just a big win for Patrick Mahomes and company. It was a big win for The Light House Homeless Prevention Support Center, too. Over 200 people came together at Heritage Baptist Church for the SOUPer Bowl Lunch and raised $8,000. Every penny supports the Light House’s efforts to reach the unhoused community in and around Annapolis.

And while $8,000 is huge, it’s just shy of the $8,500 goal. Kinda like 4th and inches on the goal line. So let’s pretend we’re the Philadelphia Eagles and brotherly shove them into the end zone. Online giving is open through 2/19.

Two more college scholarships

The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County has two scholarships for local students. The first is the Lance Corporal Eric William Herzberg and Lance Corporal William Taylor Wild IV Scholarship, established anonymously in 2014 to honor its fallen namesakes. It’s $10,000 for any AACPS senior with a 2.5 GPA or better who plans to seek higher education or attend trade school this fall. Apply here.

The second from the Officer Grant Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund offers $1,700 for tuition, fees, and books for higher education or trade school. It’s available to graduating student-athletes at South River or Crofton High Schools, members or dependents of the MDTA Police Department, or members or dependents of the MD Diamond/Anne Arundel County Umpires Association. Apply here.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Meet Dodge Arrows

DodgeBow burst onto the Annapolis recreation scene a year ago and was an immediate hit. One conversation with owner Louben Repke and you’ll know why. He moved here from Haiti when he was 10 years old and couldn’t speak any English. Now he owns two successful businesses and works as a nurse. And yes, he has more energy than anyone I know.

This is an exciting week for Louben not only because it’s DodgeBow’s first anniversary, but because he’s broken away from the franchise and renamed it Dodge Arrows. If you want to see what Dodge Arrows is all about or just get to meet Louben, don’t miss the ribbon cutting this Friday at 5:30 PM.

A year’s worth of Wendy’s

“Where’s the beef?” is a question 100 locals will not have to ask themselves for the next year. Wendy’s at 1454 White Hall Road just got remodeled and the owners are celebrating by giving away a year’s worth of free food to the first 100 people in line on February 17.

✅ Fun fact: Scoop publisher Ryan once won free Arby’s for a year in a similar promo. He only took advantage of it four times.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

So you think you can Rubik’s Cube?

Calling all child prodigies! Do you know anyone in grades 4–8 who can solve a Rubik’s Cube in under 90 seconds? Each year, Naptown Cubers hosts two competitions in Annapolis. Their next is planned for March 16 at 2 PM at the Michael E. Busch Library on West Street. Click here to register.

Save the date: A Night to Fight FA

We love an underdog. And when you’re fighting a disease with no known cure, you’re definitely an underdog. That’s why the Burrows Hill Foundation is hosting A Night to Fight FA on April 20 at 6 PM in Akerson Tower at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. FA = Friedreich’s Ataxia – a rare genetic disorder that slowly damages your nervous system. Scoop has proudly sponsored A Night to Fight FA for two years and plans to make it three in 2024. Click here for tickets.

World’s Largest Diaper Drive

When you think community pantry, you might think canned goods or pancake mix. But for baby parents, there’s one (surprisingly expensive) necessity in high demand: diapers. That’s why the Walk the Walk Foundation is collecting 100,000 diapers for local community pantries from May 1–7. Hold onto your butts as we explain. . .

Step 1: Register to discuss what this could look like for your organization.
Step 2: Walk the Walk provides collection bins, tools, and resources for success.
Step 3: You have fun making a difference!

Monetary donations make a big difference too. Walk the Walk Foundation is aiming to collect $20k in addition to a 💩 load of diapers.
