TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. This is Naptown Scoop. We’re like your favorite wine – smooth, well-balanced, and pairs well with breakfast.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • City seeks Poet Laureate ✒️

  • Annapolis Blues shut out Grove United ⚽️ 🏆

  • Baygrass Music Festival 🪕

Let’s get to it.

— Lauren Burke Meyer, Dylan Roche, Chelsea Harrison, & Ryan Sneddon

Naptown Scoop is turning 4 🎂

By age 4, most kids are learning their ABCs or how to use scissors. Ever the overachiever, Naptown Scoop by age 4 has firmly established itself as a pillar of Annapolis’ digital landscape. So we’re throwing a party to celebrate our fourth year in business.

It’s August 16 from 6:30–9:30 PM at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. We’ll have a gourmet dinner from Ken’s Creative Kitchen, fabulously dressed oyster shuckers, an open bar, and dessert from Always Ice Cream Company. And get this. . .

727 Sailbags made us a sweet custom duffel bag to celebrate our four-year anniversary (which nearly coincides with theirs). And it could be yours! Anyone who buys a ticket between now and 11:59 PM this Sunday gets a chance at the bag. 1 ticket = 1 chance to win. So grab your tickets. This bag has your name all over it!

What’s cooking at the Annapolis Town Center?

You can never have too many options for fresh baked goods. That’s why we’re looking forward to having Tatte Bakery & Café at the Annapolis Town Center. 🥐

This popular DC chain started as a farmers market stand before rising in popularity almost as fast as dough in the proofing drawer, thanks to its high-quality ingredients and excellent customer service. Tatte’s moving into the former Brio Tuscan Kitchen space and the opening date is TBA.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Theater Talk Tuesday 🎭

An enchanted forest, fairies, mischief, and a guy with a donkey head . . . what’s not to like in this classic rom-com from that old rascal, Shakespeare? Classic Theater of Maryland’s midsummer run of this production offers shows Thursdays–Sundays, July 11-28. We know this production will be dreamy in CTM’s expert hands.

The talented young stars of The Talent Machine Co. (ages 5-18) bring this Mel Brooks classic to life at the Pascal Center for Performing Arts at AACC. The production promises amazing dance numbers and laugh-out-loud comedy! The show opens this Friday, July 12 and runs through July 21.

Classic theater feels a lot more approachable (and delicious) when it’s performed in the outdoor courtyard at Reynolds Tavern, as Classic Theatre of Maryland does every year. This time around it’s The Miser, Moliere’s comedy about a nasty miser and his household trying to get one over on him. See it tonight at 7:30 PM or any Tuesday throughout July and August (except July 16 & August 20).

Baygrass Music Festival is a conservation and community-focused musical event blending bluegrass, jamgrass, and Americana music with the gorgeous beachfront venue that is Sandy Point State Park.

Now’s the time to get tickets to see 14 bands (including Otiel & Friends) September 21–22. Baygrass also features local culinary options like fresh lump crab cakes (our fave), oysters, gourmet BBQ, wood-fired pizzas, plus vegan and vegetarian delicacies. Enjoy local microbrews, cocktails, mocktails, and wine too. Don’t forget about dancing, cornhole, beachside yoga, and the Kidz Cove! Your ticket also supports the festival’s mission to protect the Chesapeake Bay and raise mental health awareness. Be there!

Annapolis Blues shut out Grove United en route to another playoff run ⚽️ 🏆

What do we love as much as a shell out? A shut out. That’s exactly what the Annapolis Blues did during Saturday’s regular season finale against FC Grove United. During the 5-0 win, Midfielder Alex Abril scored two goals, while Miles Avery, Brady Geho, and Alek Wroblewski notched one goal each. Goalkeeper Owen Allegro and the defense posted their fourth shutout of the season.

The Blues finished with a 9-0-1 record, clinching their second regular season championship and the top seed in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Playoff. In fact, the Blues are the #2 team in the entire NPSL. They now face FC Frederick in the first game of the playoffs at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Wednesday (7/10). Kickoff is at 7:00 PM and tickets are on sale now. Go Blues! 💙
