Celebrate Together: Special New Year’s Eve Group Pricing
The best New Year’s Eve party in Annapolis just got even better. At The Choptank, when you gather your crew of 6 or more, you’ll enjoy exclusive group ticket pricing — only $125 per person (regularly $150). That’s a big reason to bring your friends and start 2024 on the rooftop with the best views in town.
Here’s what’s in store: an unforgettable standing buffet featuring Choptank’s signature dishes, an impressive raw bar, and a carving station that’s all about Maryland flavors. Sip on cocktails from the open bar — don’t miss the Espresso Martini station — and toast with champagne at midnight as fireworks light up the harbor.
Dance into the new year with music from a live DJ, capture the night at the photo booth, and make memories to last all year.
THE DIGEST
Major Stories of the Week
Even when there’s a federal holiday shortening the week (another grateful thank-you to all our veterans and active-duty readers!), there’s still a lot happening in a city like Annapolis. Here are some of the biggest stories that caught your attention this week:
📖 Holiday Gift Guide for Book Lovers
Books always make a great gift! And to encourage shopping local for all the readers in your life this holiday season, we launched a Gift Guide for Book Lovers, highlighting the many indie bookshops in the area.
🛒 Plastic Bag Reduction Act
Starting January 22, the City of Annapolis will ban plastic bags in retail stores in an effort to cut down on single-use plastic. It’ll be time to start bringing your own reusable bag or paying a 10-cent fee for a paper bag. Shoppers in Anne Arundel County are already used to this.
🚙 Plans for a New Bay Bridge
After years of evaluation, the MDTA is looking at building two brand-new spans of the Bay Bridge to replace the existing ones. Give your input at one of three upcoming community meetings on December 4, 9, and 11.
And Of Course, We’re Hiring!
If you’re reading this, you probably already love what we do at Naptown Scoop. But did you see our announcement this week that we’re looking for a social media manager? Check out the job description and apply!

Go Pete, Beat Cancer
In case you hadn’t heard, “The Voice of Navy Sports” and co-host of our Anchors Aweigh Podcast, Pete Medhurst, has brain cancer. So using Navy’s iconic catchphrase, we made some shirts to raise money for the Medhursts. They’re available at Naval Bagels this morning (11/15) from 8:30–9:30 PM and if you can’t make that, email [email protected] to get one. Shirts are available with a $40 donation.
New Novel Sets its POV in Annapolis, Past and Present
It’s got ghosts, Annapolis history, and a wee bit of magical realism. And with that, local author Nikki Brochetti has possibly written the Great American Novel. At least, locals might find that to be the case. You can see for yourself by checking out Because of Winter, the new novel that weaves historical fiction and local folklore into one engrossing tale. Available on Amazon.com now.

Where were we Wednesday?
ANSWER:
Yesterday’s big story was a major hint for Where Are We Wednesday. It’s the Bay Bridge! Specifically the Eastbound span. Thanks for playing and congrats to @cathy_pop, @jenifer.smith.9889, and @momto2wins for being the first 3 to answer correctly 🎉

LOCAL BUSINESS
Tatte: More Than Just a Latte
To be fair, their coffee is spectacular. But the food menu at Tatte, the new bakery in Annapolis Town Center, deserves your attention. The chain is hugely popular in Boston and DC, and the newly opened Annapolis cafe delivers elegant comfort food in both sweet and savory flavors. Check out their lamb shakshuka and challah, or their coffee caramel mousse. No one says you have to wait for dessert. Just go ahead and order it.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
Before football season started, there was some hullaballoo that if Navy and Army both made it to the American Athletic Conference Championship, they could end up playing each other two weeks in a row. I must admit, I wrote it off. Navy was 5–7 last year; Army was 6–6. Boy, was I wrong.
With undefeated Army sitting atop the conference and Navy (7–2) in third, an unprecedented doubleheader is 100% possible. But there’s a huge obstacle – the Tulane Green Wave.
The #25 team in the country is heading to Annapolis this weekend and they’re one game ahead of Navy. So if Navy doesn’t upset them on Senior Day, the Mids’ conference championship hopes are over.
Face value tickets are sold out. However you can still get tickets on SeatGeek. Buckle up. Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is gonna be rockin’ tomorrow.
It’s all to play for. And our Navy Football Podcast team (featuring Bill Wagner and former players Eric Kettani and Keenan Reynolds) has the best game preview anywhere. Listen here – 43 minutes.
