TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Before we begin our Scoop, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!

And if you know what book that’s from, we can be friends.

Let’s get to it.

— Ryan Sneddon, Rebecca Kraybill, & Lauren Burke Meyer

This candle does more than smell good

Most candles do two things. Smell good and throw off pretty light. Some with cool jars double as decor. Our limited edition Wildberry Farm holiday candle does all of that and a fourth thing.

It prevents eviction.

On June 11, Annapolis experienced its worst mass shooting in five years. Three men died; one left behind a wife and eight children with no income. Enter Annapolis Hope. To prevent this family from getting evicted, we’re raising money to buy their home and completely remove the financial burden of shelter.

When you buy this beautiful piece of holiday art masquerading as a fragrant candle, most of the money goes directly to that mission.

Of course, we have to buy wax and jars and scent oil and all that candle stuff, but the vast majority of the money supports the family.

So buy one for your wife. Buy one for your boss. Buy ten for your office. Because with every candle, you’re helping a local family recover from a horrific tragedy. Click here to order online.

THE DIGEST

Get fancy for Charting Careers

Some say looking forward to something is sometimes better than the thing itself. So put this on your calendar now. The Rotary Club’s annual Black Tie and Diamonds fundraiser is March 9 at the Graduate Annapolis Hotel. There will be a surf & turf dinner, open bar, silent auction, and more. Proceeds benefit Charting Careers. Click here for tickets.

Scoop loves a good fundraiser party. Our own third anniversary party this August happened to be a fundraiser for the very same nonprofit. Thanks to all of you, we raised $4,000 for Charting Careers.

ICYMI: Who won the EYC Lights Parade?

Best in show. Best under 30 feet. Best new entry. All boats at the EYC Lights Parade this weekend are winners in my book but only 8 of the 51 sailed away with awards. We’ve got the full list of winners. While you’re at it, dive into the story of LOOKINGGLASS, that over-the-top boat with all the bells, whistles, and. . . smoke machines.

LOCAL BUSINESS

💈 The new Del’s

The sudden passing of Del Puschert in July 2022 and subsequent closure of Del’s Barber & Styling Shop saddened our community. Del was known for his easygoing and friendly nature at the neighborhood shop.

The barbershop served Annapolitans and even celebrities like Del’s friend, Elvis Presley, for decades. The shop’s all-female barbers cut generations of young men, boys, dads, grandfathers, and grandsons.

Recently, Anita Manger — a barber with 40 years of experience — opened her own shop a block down the road from the original Del’s. She named it Little Del’s Barbershop to pay homage to the late Annapolitan legend.

She knew Del well as she managed his shop for nearly 28 years. Her new shop has the same nostalgic, old-time feel.

Anita says, “I wanted to bring back that family-friendly shop that had a pleasant atmosphere, and everyone knew I genuinely cared about every client.”

Little Del’s opened in October at 165 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401. They’re open for walk-ins only Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Btw, Anita is ISO another barber. They’ll need great clipper skills and an upbeat personality. Email [email protected] to apply.

Thanks Zachary Pisarz – a 20+ year Del’s customer – for the tip on this story!

No more holes in the yard 🐶

Picture this: You just got home from work; dog's playing in the backyard; the kids are reading quietly. Life is good. And then you see it.

A fresh hole in the lawn – courtesy of your adorable dog. Let me tell you how this never happens again.

Pet turf. With SYNLawn’s dog grass, your pets will enjoy a dedicated outdoor space while you enjoy a low-maintenance, long-lasting yard. And coming home without finding any new holes! Not to mention fewer doggy baths.

And for all our local heroes – SYNLawn even offers a $250 discount if you rescued your dog from a shelter! Get a free quote today.
