Ask the Annapolis Blues anything, lax state championships, where to get fresh local veggies...
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. Here’s a fun fact to impress your friends today. Blue Angels planes are modified for tricks – a smoke-oil tank instead of weapons and 40-pound springs on the control stick for precision movements. But they’re still part of the Navy’s fleet and can be combat ready on an aircraft carrier within 72 hours.
In today’s Naptown Scoop:
Ask the Annapolis Blues anything
Lacrosse state championships
Where to get fresh, local veggies
Let’s get to it.

She’s also an Anne Arundel County Youth Advisory Council member. Keep up the great work, Margot!
New Village Academy opening delayed
New Village Academy, a proposed charter high school operating under AACPS, was hoping to declare class in session this fall for 150 students at the Westfield Annapolis mall. But because of a possible sale, Westfield has frozen lease negotiations, causing the school’s governing board to delay opening until fall 2025. ($)

LOCAL BUSINESS
How can we eat more veggies? 🥬 🍅
CSA, that’s how. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, as in community members pre-purchasing a share of a season’s harvest. Clagett Farm’s CSA is an easy way to get organic, farm-fresh, locally sourced vegetables. And by “fresh” they really mean it! Farmers harvest most produce the same day you receive it. Clagett Farm is owned by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), so by joining this CSA, you’re also supporting CBF’s important work. There are 3 pickup locations: Clagett Farm, the Vineyards at Dodon), and CBF’s office in Annapolis. The CSA runs May to November with 26-week and 13-week options. Order here.

What’s next for Commissioning Week?
It’s Tuesday — that means 4 days to graduation, and lots of Commissioning Week fun still to be had. Here’s a reminder of what’s going on around the Naval Academy:

The Naval Academy Bridge (Rt. 450) closes today from 10:45 AM–1 PM and closes today and tomorrow from 1:45 PM til around 4 PM. The Severn River will be closed to boats and other watercraft from the bridge to Spa Creek during the same time.

And the moment it’s all building up to: the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony at 10 AM Friday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Congrats, graduates!

Broadneck girls lax wins 4A state semifinal 🥍
Momentum. That’s what the Broadneck girls lacrosse team had in their semifinal 16-8 win over Walt Whitman on Friday. The 1st quarter showed signs it might be a back-and-forth affair. But the Bruins’ 8-goal 2nd quarter break away proved otherwise. Broadneck junior attackers led the way: Sienna Miller with 5 goals and 2 assists; Cayman Holmes with 4 assists and 1 goal. Senior midfielder Lily Trout scored 4 goals, while senior attacker Olivia Orso had a hat trick. Broadneck is seeking its 4th straight state championship against Urbana on Thursday (5/23) at 6 PM at Stevenson University’s Mustang Stadium. ($)
Severna Park boys are one victory from 8th straight state title 🥍
Severna Park boys lacrosse may have a record of 16-1. But Saturday’s 10-7 win over Marriotts Ridge in the Class 3A state semifinal wasn’t pretty. Falcons Head Coach Bob Zichelli said, “Our offense was awful. The worst we’ve been all year.” The Falcons netted 5 goals in the 1st-half but turned the ball over 7 times. Even so, with 4 goals from Jack Fish, 2 from Nolan Grizzle, and 1 each from Landon Williams, Timmy Sullivan, Tucker Moran, and Ben Ruppert, the Falcons will compete for their 8th straight title against Towson at Stevenson University tonight at 6 PM. Good luck boys! ($)
