Honeygrow opens today, Fed grant for electric ferries, Always Ice Cream Crofton

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. This is Naptown Scoop, the local newsletter that’s as refreshing as the first sip of a Painkiller. 🍹

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Honeygrow opens today in Annapolis 🥗

  • $3.9 million fed grant for electric ferries ⛴️

  • Always Ice Cream expands to Crofton 🍦

Let’s get to it.

— Lauren Burke Meyer, Dylan Roche, Chelsea Harrison, & Ryan Sneddon

P.S. Happy early birthday, Judy Edwards! 🎂

Own a piece of Pusser’s 🖼

We know a lot of Annapolitans are sad to say goodbye to Pusser’s, the longstanding Caribbean grill on the water that has been part of local culture for 30 years. But if you don’t want to say goodbye completely, take a piece of Pusser’s home. All the memorabilia that decorated the bar and restaurant is currently up for sale. Check out the entire catalog of historic photos, signs, model ships, coral arrangements, ship figureheads, and so much more — even the banquette seating (yes, really)!

But here’s the thing: It’s all going, going, soon-to-be GONE very quickly, so don’t wait. We can’t guarantee anything is going to be available very long, or that much is going be left by the time you open up this email (sorry). We bet taking home one of these items will be (almost) as good as a Painkiller. 🍹

Last chance to attend Choptank’s crab feast (plus 10% off for Scoop subscribers only)

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that summer officially ends on Sunday. The good news is you can send it off with one last quintessential Annapolis summer activity. And that’s the Choptank’s second crab feast.

They only planned to do one this summer but after the first was so fun, they decided to host one more for us. There are 2 seatings on Saturday (1 PM and 4 PM) and your ticket gets you 2 hours of all-you-can-eat crabs, MD crab soup, hush puppies, french fries, and lots more MD crab feast classics. Your ticket also includes a limited-edition Crab Feast t-shirt!

And for Scoop readers only, Choptank is offering 10% if you use the code SCOOP10. Rumor has it there may even be a dunk tank with some familiar faces. . .

Click here to get your tickets! Pro tip: Have one person buy all the tickets so you can get seated together. 8 tickets get you a private table!

$3.9 million fed grant for electric ferries ⛴️

Anne Arundel County has landed nearly $3.9 million in federal funding to buy electric ferries, marking progress toward a passenger ferry system connecting waterfront destinations on the Chesapeake Bay. The grant, awarded by the Federal Transit Administration, will fund two 49-passenger electric ferries, charging infrastructure at Annapolis City Dock, a ferry terminal, and workforce training. It’s not quite full steam ahead though . . . The full $7.2 million request, which included a larger ferry (149 passengers), electric shuttle buses, and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, wasn’t met.

Three of the six proposed routes include Annapolis. Our county plans to use electric ferries for service between Baltimore, Annapolis, and Kent Island. The county’s first priority is to designate a builder for the electric vessels and place the order before the end of 2024. Construction will be a “limiting factor,” which isn’t expected to make waves until 2027. ($)

Where were we Wednesday? 📸

ANSWER:

You may have known this was a golf course, but did you know which one? @curtslaterpa, @hallmcmillan, and @reneemweir knew which one.

This is Renditions Golf Course in Davidsonville, where every hole is a replica of a famous championship hole. This one here is a replica of Hole 12 at Augusta National, Home of the iconic Masters tournament.

Thanks for playing @everyone! 🎉

A MESSAGE FROM HOSPICE OF THE CHESAPEAKE

45 years of making moments that matter

The story began in 1979 with four volunteers sitting around a kitchen table, planning a better way to care for people at the end of life. Forty-five years later the legacy of those volunteers continues to shape Hospice of the Chesapeake's work today as they work together to create meaning for each family they serve.

They are grateful for many volunteers, team members and donors who have joined their mission of caring for life and are grateful to the tens of thousands of people in the community who trusted them to care for their families.

Charting Careers fundraiser 🍻

Y’all we have a reminder and correction. The Charting Careers x Forward fundraiser is on Tuesday, September 24. Sorry about sharing the wrong date initially. Hopefully, some brewskies will help us move past that. Join Charting Careers at Forward Brewing (418 Fourth Street, Annapolis) from 5–7 PM to support young scholars in the Annapolis-area. Charting Careers needs donations to support family nights, transportation, snacks, field trips, college visits, and internships in their work of supporting young scholars. Whether you attend or not, anyone can donate.
