ICYMI: Scoop’s Christmas Lights of the Year

Once again we want to wish a hearty congratulations to John and Dina Haines of Severna Park for winning our first ever Christmas Lights contest. Thank you to everyone who participated. And to those asking about a Christmas lights tour, we love the idea and we’ll do it next year.

Survey says. . .

  • 27% of residents find Annapolis well-planned for residential growth and 13% approve the availability of affordable quality housing âŸ·

LOCAL BUSINESS

Dogs (and humans) 💙 Oscar’s Coffee

Waterfront charm. Treats for your pup. Good coffee. All out of a 1974 Shasta RV. If you’ve been to Oscar’s Coffee, you know there’s nothing like it. If you haven’t, it’s a must. Oscar’s has been caffeinating Eastport neighbors in the Horn Point Harbor Marina parking lot for 6 months now. It’s perfect for a hot cup on a weekend or weekday morning. Check it out daily from 7 AM–noon.

P.S. When we say dog-friendly we mean it. The shop’s named for co-owners Will and Garrett’s 7-year-old golden retriever. But new pups on the block (like another co-owner Lee Snead’s new puppy, Frankie) are welcome, too. ($)

11th Hour/Midnight Madness

In honor of the final Midnight Madness of 2023, we’re gonna rewrite the words to a popular Christmas song. See if you can guess it by the rhythm and some of the original lyrics mixed in. The answer’s at the bottom of the email.

đŸŽ” It’s the final Midnight Madness
It’s the last one of the year
Now I sure know there won’t be snow
But have a local beer

It’s the final Midnight Madness
But it ends at 11 PM
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet

Oh-ho, the local stores
Are so much better to me
Who cares for Amazon
Surely, not you and me

It’s the final Midnight Madness
And in case you’re tired, too
Oh, by golly
Have an espresso martini, or two đŸŽ”

It’s frustrating, but

Let’s just cut to the chase: 52% of men experience erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives. It’s nothing to be ashamed of and can be a source of constant frustration. Luckily, the men’s health experts at AAUrology have vast experience finding a solution that works for you.

Erectile dysfunction often comes from a complex combination of psychological, hormonal and physical factors. It is not normal at any age and could mean diabetes, high blood pressure, or even a serious disease.

Even though it is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s crucial to get it treated. And that’s exactly what AAUrology is here for. Learn more about how they can help you.

Eating out on Christmas Eve and Christmas
What’s open on Christmas Eve and Christmas? We’re glad you asked. We’ve compiled a guide to dining, drinks, and more over Christmas. Here it is!

Miracle in West Annapolis
12/26 is Boxing Day for the Brits & Canadians but Miracle in West Annapolis for us. There will be food trucks, vendors, games, and activities for all ages. The main event with the Budweiser Clydesdales — aka the world’s most famous horses — starts around 1 PM on Annapolis Street. Giddy up!

Military Bowl + Parade
Festivities for the Military Bowl on 12/27 include a parade and game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium featuring Virginia Tech vs. Tulane. The Clydesdales are back in action to lead the parade to the stadium. That steps off from City Dock at 10 AM. Game tickets start at $35. On-site game parking is SOLD OUT. For other nearby parking options head to militarybowl.link/transportation.

Luckily, lots of stadium neighbors sell parking in their driveways if you arrive early enough. May the parking gods be in your favor.

New Year’s Eve đŸ„‚
The countdown is on to the best end-of-year parties. Hurry and get your tickets! And don’t miss Annapolis’ two fireworks shows over the harbor.

Michael Phipps leaves Navy Men’s Lax for UMD đŸ„

Offensive Coordinator (OC) Michael Phipps is leaving the USNA men’s lacrosse program for the same job at University of Maryland College Park. It’s familiar territory. Phipps is a former Terp laxer and ‘07 grad.

He served one season as Navy OC that was heavily impacted by injuries to key players. Last year, Navy went 8-8, used 10 starting lineups, and averaged 10.25 goals per game. Navy now has to look for two OCs in two major sports. Last week, they announced that football OC Grant Chesnut will not return in 2024.

We wish Phipps great success and many celebratory post-game drinks next season at the classic UMD watering hole – RJ Bentley's! ($)

Upcoming games & matches

Men's Basketball (3-6)
12/21 @ Youngstown State | 2 PM

Wrestling (5-0)
12/21 @ American University | 7 PM
