🏳️‍🌈 Annapolis Pride: Recap 🏳️‍🌈

Annapolis made Pride proud this past Saturday, with a spectacular parade through downtown Annapolis culminating in a festival at Maryland Hall. Dozens of groups participated in the parade, displaying vibrant and creative floats. Christian Siriano, fashion designer and Annapolis native, served as Grand Marshal.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore attended the festivities, saying, “This is what makes Maryland extraordinary; it’s when everyone feels a sense of belonging in their own skin. That is who we are.”

For a recap of some of our favorite photos, check out our Instagram. And to learn more about other upcoming Pride Month events, see Annapolis Pride’s Events page.

Save the Date: Gun Violence Awareness and Wellness Fair

NO HARM VIP is a community-based Violence Intervention Prevention Program managed by the Annapolis Mayor's Office. And they just announced their second annual Gun Violence Awareness and Wellness Fair. It will take place June 30 from 3–6 PM at the Pip Moyer Center. The free, all-ages Wellness Fair will include food, music, activities, resources, raffles, and community conversations.

Wishing a happy retirement to USNA’s Pat Owen 🏌️‍♂️

A lot changes over three decades. But one thing that’s stayed the same? Pat Owen has worked with Navy golf for over three decades — first as varsity men’s golf coach for 32 years and then as Director of Golf since 2022. As of this past weekend, he is officially retired. Throughout his career with Navy Golf, Owen led his players to numerous Patriot League championships and NCAA Tournaments. Now he’s teed up to play plenty of golf in retirement, plus travel with his wife, Karen. ($)

If you don’t feel like picking crabs, crabcakes are the next best way to fill your crab craving. Naptown Scoop publisher Ryan Sneddon and Atlantic Prime Mortgage's Wes Tower (plus occasional guest stars like Captain Chris) are on a mission to find out who has the best crabcake in town.

Here are the Top 10 places we’ve visited already. But we need your help: Where else should we try? Who has the best crabcakes around that you think can get in on the rankings?

End the summer right with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra

I know, I know. Summer hasn’t even started and I’m planning the end? Yes. And here’s why.

Pops in the Park is the unofficial end of summer. It’s when the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra performs danceable tunes, a little Hollywood and Broadway, and patriotic tunes in our beautiful public parks. It’s fun for the whole family.

Pops in the Park is August 31 at Downs Park and August 31 at Quiet Waters Park. Oh, and the best part? It’s completely free!

Shortly after Pops in the Park, the Symphony opens its 63rd season with the first of five Masterworks performances. Think you’ll want to see more than one? Check out the ASO’s subscription and FlexPass options and save big. It’s the smart way to see the Symphony.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Theater Tuesday

ASGT presents The Prom
Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre (ASGT) opened its latest season with this hilarious musical romp about Broadway has-beens crashing a high school prom to save their careers. Reserve tickets early since ASGT performances tend to sell out quickly! Showtimes and tickets.

CTM presents Crazy for You
Classic Theatre of Maryland takes on the classic rom-com formula with this musical about a big-city guy headed to a small town to foreclose its rundown theater — only to find himself falling for the theater owner’s spunky daughter. Crazy for You opens Thursday and runs through June 16. Tickets.

Auditions: Tiny Beautiful Things
Colonial Players is holding auditions for its first show of the season, Tiny Beautiful Things, based on the hit book about an advice columnist healing her own wounds while providing words of wisdom to others. Auditions are open to the public on June 9 at 7 PM and June 10 at 7 PM. More info.

River Days Festivals 🚣‍♂️

We thought about opening with a River Joke. But we didn’t think it was current. 😂 Now that we got THAT out of the way. . . County Executive Steuart Pittman recently shared that Anne Arundel County will expand River Days festivals to five locations this summer.

The festivals offer free public water access and activities on our local rivers! While free, you must register for entry, as capacity is limited. Boat ride tickets are also free but must be reserved separately for a specific time slot. The first festival is on June 29 from 11 AM–4 PM at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (647 Contees Wharf Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037). Register and see the full schedule at aacounty.org/riverdays.

Countdown to Eastport A Rockin’ 🎸

There are less than 3 weeks until one of Eastport’s favorite parties, held on Back Creek and Second Street. Get your tickets now for Saturday, June 22 at 11 AM to see this all-local showcase of musical talent. Save $10 by purchasing advance tickets (save $50 for VIP). Kids 12 and under are free but still need a ticket.
