🍦Sewage leak on Spa Creek

Here comes the sun, three corrections, Blues season seats...

Good morning, Annapolis. Most newspapers hide their corrections at the bottom of a story. We own our flaws so we put them first thing. And we made 3 mistakes yesterday. That might be a record.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • A correction

  • Another correction

  • Yet another correction

Let’s get to it.

THE CORRECTIONS SECTION

First things first, Navy’s first home football game is September 9, not September 8. Thanks Eileen Mitchard for catching this.

Next, while Brad Kappel is selling the building the Inn at Horn Point used to occupy, the Inn is still very much a thriving Eastport business. It’s now located at 534 Burnside Street and just celebrated its 21st year.

And finally, the Salvation Army pickleball tournament is at Ball at the Mall, not Truxtun Park. Which I really have no excuse for not knowing because my neighbor owns Ball at the Mall.

Thanks for loving us through our flaws. Don’t Give up the Scoop!

Stitching together hope

Clothing scraps 🪡→ quilt. Annapolis 🪡→ Kenya. Ron-Shaye Clark, the founder of Annapolis’ M.E.G.A. (Manifesting Every Great Accomplishment) is all about stitching together communities. She’s collecting clothes for local youth to create a collaborative quilt that will be donated to a new school in Kenya. ($)

  • You can donate clothes (to be scrapped and quilted) September 5–October 5. Contact Ron-Shaye at 302-983-5221.

Sewage leak in Spa Creek

💩 happens. Sometimes 300,000 gallons of it. Tons of sewage leaked into Spa Creek over the weekend thanks to a cracked pipe. Crews identified the leak at Heritage Court near Merryman Lane on Friday. By the time the line was repaired Monday night, an estimated 300k gallons had leaked into the creek. Take it from this interviewee: “It smelled like a Port-a-Potty down here.”

  • The city put out a “no contact” advisory until this Saturday (9/2). That means wash up with warm water and soap (lots of it) if you happen to touch affected water. ($)

CIVIL NEWS

Here Comes the Sun 🎶

The county recently finished a solar energy project at Millersville’s Bureau of Utility Operations Complex. The initiative features 4 carports and 7 rooftop solar arrays, generating 1.3 megawatts of clean power and offsetting 90% of the complex’s electricity needs.

  • And while the project isn’t in Annapolis, here’s why it affects you. County Executive Steuart Pittman says he wants all county facilities to use renewable electricity (produced or purchased) by 2030. Bring on the sun. ☀️
