Shipping up to Dublin ☘️

It’s finally here. Navy football vs. Notre Dame in Ireland. The game is Saturday (8/26) at 2:30 PM ET and can be watched on NBC if you couldn’t get the PTO to pop across the pond. Notre Dame is currently a 20.5 point favorite but we’re hoping for a little movie magic.

For the 39,000 Americans who will make the trip (including 7,500 Navy fans), the Naval Academy Alumni Association has organized a Hooley – that’s Irish for epic party – and a tailgate. There’s even a pep rally Friday afternoon in Merrion Square.

If you want to join the fun, follow Anchors Aweigh Athletics on Instagram and Twitter. As the official Navy sports partner of Naptown Scoop, Anchors Aweigh is the only place you’ll find our coverage of the Midshipmen’s trip to Ireland.

For an in-depth preview of the game, check out episode one of this season’s Navy Football Podcast hosted by Bill Wagner for Anchors Aweigh Athletics – available wherever you listen to podcasts.

THE DIGEST

CRAB Cup by the numbers

Science hasn’t yet invented a metric for measuring fun. So you’ll have to believe us when we say the Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) Cup last weekend was buckets of fun. Here are some numbers to prove it:

  • $87,891 raised

  • 650 sailors and supporters

  • 88 sailboats registered

  • 7 powerboats registered

  • ♾️ rum drinks consumed at the Shore Party

Congrats to skippers Walt Pletcher (1st), John Dodge (2nd), and (3rd) Jamie Wright for their respective regatta wins. And sailor caps off to Lydia Deckman winning the Poker Pursuit and an honorable mention to “Worst Hand” Jim Whitcomb. See you in 2024!

CIVIL NEWS

And then there were three

Pasadena resident Erica McFarland has made it official: She’s running for the District 3 seat on the Board of Education. On Tuesday, Scoop shared that Pasadena resident Jamie Hurman-Cougnet had filed for the same seat. All 7 non-student board seats are up for election in November. We’ll say it again: who’s gonna file next?! ($)
