🍦Sofi's Crepes isn't closing

Navy men's lax, four new restaurants, the week's biggest stories...

Good morning, Annapolis. Apparently Tesla Cybertruck owners have to wipe bird poop and dead bugs off immediately to avoid the uncoated stainless steel body from corroding. I think I’ll stick with my 19-year-old Toyota.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Navy men’s lax

  • Four new restaurants

  • We’re hiring

Let’s get to it.

— Lauren Burke Meyer, Dylan Roche, & Ryan Sneddon

P.S. Happy early birthdays to Cass C. and Melissa Bayly! 🎂

THE DIGEST

Major stories this week

Huge accident on the Bay Bridge. A 23-vehicle pileup and several adjacent crashes closed the Westbound span of the Bay Bridge for 6 hours last weekend. 13 people went to the hospital though none had life-threatening injuries.

Outdoor dining extended. City Council once again extended Annapolis’ temporary outdoor dining program put in place in the early pandemic. Ward 8 Alderman Ross Arnett plans to introduce legislation to make it permanent soon.

Westgate Circle sculpture proposals scrapped. The Annapolis Art in Public Places Commission is back to brainstorming at Westgate Circle. This comes after the commission proposed three sculptures that suffered no small amount of online criticism.

Naptown Scoop is hiring. Did you hear? We’re growing like a weed. And we’re looking for a sales rep to help us sell advertising in this here newsletter. Hunger and drive are more important than experience so if you’ve got what it takes, apply here.

Hearing bells on Saturday night?

🔔 ICYMI: Those bells ringing overnight Saturday? That’s just the Johnnies. They’ll be turning in their senior essays and tradition dictates they get to ring the McDowell Hall bell. And yes, they have a noise ordinance exception. Congrats, Johnnies!

LOCAL BUSINESS

New restaurant spotlight

We’ve had several awesome new restaurants open lately. How many have you tried?

Chessie’s Wharf by RAR
Eastern Shore-born RAR opened its first Annapolis location 2.5 weeks ago and it’s been packed ever since. Inside you’ll find almost 40 beers and a full bar, simple and well-executed eats, and 26 synchronized singing fish. Try it at 609 Melvin Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401.

InGrano Restaurant
Not to be confused with InGrano Bistro + Bakery. InGrano slid in after Flamant closed and didn’t change much. The menu is full of interesting, elevated global cuisine that will impress even the most discerning palate. Try it at 17 Annapolis St, Annapolis, MD 21401.

100 Lots Kitchen + Bar
Edgewater misses Broadneck Grill, but it’s happy to have 100 Lots. They serve updated Americana food made from scratch with local ingredients. Try it at 74 W Central Ave, Edgewater, MD 21037.

Robiolina Amore
There is no such thing as too many Italian restaurants. Robiolina Amore is a brand new but already well-loved restaurant that’s also in Edgewater. Try it at 9 Lee Airpark Drive, Suite B100, Edgewater, MD 21037.

Sofi’s Crepes is closing in Baltimore, not Annapolis

Don’t fear, crepe loves. While Sofi’s Crepes founder Ann Costlow is retiring and closing her Baltimore location, our Annapolis Sofi’s is a franchise and they are not closing. Thanks for the crepes, Ann. Enjoy retirement! ($)

🤔 Why is it called Sofi’s Crepes if the founder is named Ann? Sofi was Ann’s dog. Her back legs were paralyzed but rolling around in a cart never stopped her and that inspired Ann.

A special relationship 🐶

For many of us, our pets are like kids. Whether they’re our “first babies” or our companions as the kids graduate or move out for college – the relationship between you and your dog is always a special one.

And that’s why 4-legged family members deserve the best care they can get. Western Shore Veterinary Hospital in Annapolis has one goal: to strengthen the relationship between you and your furry friend.

They work with each client to help dogs live long, healthy lives, and offer treatment plans and preventive medicine that meet every client’s needs. Reach out today to experience the Western Shore Veterinary Hospital difference.
