THE DIGEST

Guest stars in the The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

The Compass Rose Theatre is putting on a unique show this spring. It’s called The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and it’s extra fun for two reasons: audience participation and VIP spellers. VIP spellers are familiar faces from town. They include Maryland Hall Executive Director Jackie Coleman, William Rowell from the City of Annapolis, Naptown Scoop Publisher Ryan Sneddon, and many more. The show runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from March 15 to April 28. Click here for tickets!

P.S. I’m spelling in the Sunday matinee on March 24 — Ryan

DPW’s interactive lead pipe map

We’ll spare you the scary “Do you think you have lead in your pipes?” because the answer is probably no. But per federal law, utility agencies still have to inventory lead pipes in home service lines. So if you’re curious about what the pipes look like around your neighborhood, you can check out this handy new interactive map. FYI: Anne Arundel County banned lead pipes in 1936, so it’s had a while to replace all of them.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Macaron Sale 🇫🇷

Raise your hand if you love you some sweets. 🙋‍♀️ Or, if eating macarons makes you feel fancy. 🙋‍♀️ Sweet Hearts Patisserie is celebrating 12 years in business with a rare sale. They’re offering boxes of 15 macarons for $26 this Saturday from 8 AM to 4 PM. If you’ve never heard of Sweet Hearts, prepare to have a new favorite sweet shop. 1410 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403.

InGrano On Main ☕️

2024 is InGrano’s year. First, they took over Flamant’s old space in West Annapolis and opened a fine dining restaurant. Now, they’re opening a DTA location. DTA = downtown Annapolis btw. We don’t know much but we do know it will have café bites and craft coffee and be located at 16 Church Circle. While we wait, don’t forget about the original InGrano at 302 Harry S. Truman Parkway.

A MESSAGE FROM ST. ANNE’S SCHOOL

Parenting is hard. But we’re all in it together.

At St. Anne’s School, we know it takes a village and whole lot of laughter to navigate the challenging, rewarding, and nuanced parenting journey. We view ourselves as part of that village and partner with parents through our free Parent Education Series. On Tuesday, March 19 at 8:30am, all are invited to hear Connie Coker, Head of School at St. Anne’s School, and Dr. Charles Parmele, Pediatrician at Annapolis Pediatrics, discuss parenting, and in particular, strategies for raising an child adult. Pulling from concepts outlined in Julie Lythcott-Haims New York Times Bestseller How to Raise an Adult, Mrs. Coker and Dr. Parmele will discuss the cultural shift towards “overparenting,” along with strategies for raising self-reliant, happy humans. Reading Lythcott-Haims’s book is not a prerequisite, but if you’re so inclined, feel free to grab a copy at your local bookstore, on Amazon, or listen to the audiobook on Audible or Spotify.

Join us for a chat (and some laughs) by registering here for this free Parent Education Session.

SPORTS

March Madness is nearly here. But before the big dance, it’s time for the conference tournaments. Navy’s men started the postseason right by beating Loyola in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday. Navy Athletics insiders Pete Medhurst and Bill Wagner gave an in-depth review of that game on this week’s Anchors Aweigh Podcast. They also previewed tonight’s quarterfinal matchup against Boston University.

Bill and Pete interviewed Navy Director of Track & Field Jamie Cook and team captain Brahmir Vick about how Track & Field swept the Patriot League Championships a couple weeks ago. Click here to listen!

Bruins boys basketball season ends

The Broadneck High School boys basketball team had a strong season, but all good things come to an end. The Bruins lost to Bowie on Tuesday in the 4A East Region II Championship.
