🦀 A crab-ulous night

Every now and then, we all deserve a special night. A night out to treat ourselves well. A good meal. A nice view. Beautiful weather. Or why not all at once?

What better way to do it than with The Choptank’s Seafood Platter on Ego Alley? A shrimp cocktail, an Alaskan king crab, Maine lobster, oysters on the half shell, and more.

And the best thing? All of that while listening to live local musicians on the indoor stage, or getting some sun on the spacious waterfront deck and rooftop.

Choptank serves Maryland’s famous seafood on Annapolis’ famous city dock.

THE DIGEST

Board to vote “yay or nay” on new charter school

New Village Academy wants to do high school differently. How? Free tuition, smaller classrooms, weekly internships, and student-led learning. This new public charter high school is looking to lease space in Westfield Annapolis. One catch: the Board of Education still has to approve it. The school governing board includes Darius Stanton, Laura Gutierrez, Will Rowel, and others. Learn more.

🎡 Summer resource fairs

The final resource fairs of the summer are coming up. Each has free food, games, and materials on jobs, nutrition, mental health, and more:

🎈 August 10: Chambers Park in Parole 🎈 August 17: Robinwood 🎈 August 24: Bay Ridge Gardens 🎈 August 31: Annapolis/Bywater

Wheels for Schools 🛞

Calling all car enthusiasts for a fun day! On August 13th, Westfield is hosting a Cars & Coffee event to support Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Join in from 9–11 AM in the former Sears Auto parking lot at Westfield Annapolis. There will be jaw-dropping cars from Mid-Atlantic Venom Mustangs & Muscle Cars Club, delicious coffee, food trucks, a DJ, and plenty of activities and entertainment!

What’s better than a few hours of good times, groovy cars, and memories you’ll remember for years? Well . . . that, but all while helping more children get a better education!

Registration is free, but donations to AACPS make a big difference! Come join us for a wonderful morning and help support a great cause.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Reminder: It’s Plebe Parents Weekend

Parents and guardians of the class of 2027 last waved goodbye to their kids on June 29 when they marched inside Bancroft Hall on Induction Day. Now, they have the weekend to watch them emerge as young adults – with new haircuts, new clothes, and (lots of) new discipline.

I’m a parent → Find the full schedule here.

I’m a Mid → Here’s Scoop’s official ranked database of crabcake reviews because you know Mom and Dad are paying 😉

I’m not a Mid or a parent → The action happens on the Yard but you might notice more vehicle and foot traffic downtown. And definitely call your favorite restaurants to see if there’s a long wait.

Weekend Staples

Food Truck Friday. Jerk chicken. Maple glazed donuts. Crawfish étouffée. All this and more when 11 trucks take over the Anne Arundel County Farmers Market parking lot. Friday (8/11) from 4–8 PM at 275 Harry S Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Wildberry Field Market. 50+ local businesses and makers pack the field at Wildberry Farm for a charming market Saturday (8/12) from 9 AM–1 PM (rain date: same time Sunday). See the lineup. 1047 Saint Stephens Church Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032.

Dinner Under the Stars. Much like how food tastes better on a stick, food tastes better when you eat in the street. West Street is closed between Church Circle and Calvert Street this Saturday for dining, dancing, and dessert under the stars (aka string lights). Participating restaurants.

Blood drive with the Blues

The Annapolis Blues are experts at saving goals on the field. Turns out they’re good at saving lives off it, too. Join the Blues today (8/11) from 10 AM–2 PM at Westfield Annapolis for a blood drive supporting Luminis Health. The blood bus will be parked at the entrance between California Pizza Kitchen and Cheesecake Factory. You can sign up online or just show up.

Fun fact:🩸 Donating a pint of blood can save up to 3 lives.

🚣 River Days at Quiet Waters Park

Did you miss River Day at Quiet Waters Park in July? Free ticket + boat ride registration just opened for the next one (8/27, 10–2 PM) so hop on it. This festival offers free lunch, music, kayak demos, games, and fun for all ages. Parking is free (tell the gate staff you’re attending River Days). Shuttles will run between Quiet Waters and select schools every 45 minutes. 600 Quiet Waters Park Rd, Annapolis, MD 21403.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.
