Behind the scenes of Scoop’s newest partnership

Today's Live Music Lowdown looks different. Instead of a plain text headline, a sleek graphic introduces our most popular section. And if you click it, you'll visit the Let's Go Music Festival website. Why did we do this?

I want reading Scoop to be a beautiful experience. One unmarred by too many ads, ugly ads, irrelevant ads, political ads. . . The list goes on. Long story, short: we prioritize reader experience over easy cash.

Which is why when Let's Go called, I knew this was the only way we could work together. They have a fantastic music festival. We have a useful live music calendar. A perfect harmony.

So to summarize, I hope you love our newest partnership. I hope you learn a band you love is playing Let's Go right here in town May 31–June 2. And I hope you go and have a terrific experience.

New book alert: Mole of Vatican Council II

Recently retired Severn School English teacher and local author Richard Zmuda has a new book out. The Mole of Vatican Council II: The True Story of Xavier Rynne, hailed as historical fiction at its best. In the words of the author himself, it’s the unbelievable backstory to the most important religious gathering in centuries — and how a St. Mary's priest played a crucial, secret role in countering the efforts of powerful cardinals trying to sabotage it. Check it out.

LOCAL BUSINESS

1 year of self defense

In My Defense has officially been providing training to ordinary citizens like us for a whole year now. The veteran-owned business — which offers classes in personal defense, firearms, and emergency medical training â€” is for anyone who wants to prepare for (and ideally avoid) violent encounters, medical emergencies, and more. The Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce is holding a ribbon cutting to celebrate this Thursday from 4:30–6:30 PM (5/9).

We encourage you to go to raise money for a worthy cause while seeing the latest fashions from local retailers. If you need another reason, Scoop publisher Ryan is modeling again. Get tickets!

CIVIL NEWS

City Council needs more time

Making decisions about something with a 20-year impact isn’t something you want to do quickly. So even though City Council has been looking at a comprehensive plan for city development since February, they just voted for a 60-day extension on making a decision. Now they have another two months to look over all 450 pages of Annapolis Ahead 2040, which outlines plans and priorities for our city until (you guessed it), 2040. ($)
