THE DIGEST

Tesla crashes into hair salon

This was a scary one and we’re grateful it wasn’t worse. A Tesla crashed into Pigtails and Crewcuts on Monday. That’s the hair salon for kids located in Festival at Riva, right next to Mod Pizza. The driver was trying to park outside of the salon but jumped the curb and ended up parking in the salon. The driver and passenger were fine, but four people were hurt, including a child. From what we understand, the driver stayed put to cooperate and the police are investigating further.

Free tree giveaway 🌳

The best time to plant a tree was 30 years ago. But since time travel hasn’t been invented yet, the second best time is now. Annapolis is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to give away 150 free trees this fall. Each resident can request up to 2 trees for pick up at Truxtun Park on November 11. The trees are first-come, come first-served so don’t leaf this for later. Request your trees now.

New Annapolitans raises $11k for charities

Ever move somewhere new and wish someone could show you the ropes? New Annapolitans has been doing that since 1985. It’s a social club for Annapolis newcomers and it’s now 700 members strong. We just want to give the club kudos for raising $11k at its latest bingo night. The money will benefit local charities, including the Anne Arundel Medical Center Abuse & Domestic Violence Program, the Lighthouse Shelter, Harmony House, and more.

Donate a Thanksgiving feast

Last year, Flamant Bistro, The Henri, and St. Margaret’s Day School provided 50 Thanksgiving meals to families who couldn’t afford it. They’re doing that again this year but are shooting even bigger with a 200 family goal. They’ve got the cooking skills covered (duh) so they’re looking for support with the cost. A $150 donation covers turkey, sides, and dessert for 4–6 people. St. Margaret’s is identifying the recipients. Donate here.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Maryland’s Year of Civil Rights

2024 is Maryland’s Year of Civil Rights. That was declared by The Maryland Commission on African American History & Culture and the Banneker-Douglass Museum, who are also hosting special programs and exhibits all year. They’re launching the initiative today (10/25) at the museum with Maryland’s First Family (AKA Governor Moore and his wife) and other special guests. 12–2 PM at 84 Franklin Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.

A Great Conversation

Bob Woodward reported on the Watergate Scandal and helped the Washington Post win two Pulitzer Prizes. Wes Moore is a bestselling author in addition to, you know, being our governor. They’re having a public conversation at St. John’s College this Sunday (10/29) at 6:45 PM. This is part of the Great Conversations series and proceeds support St. John’s scholarship funds. Get tickets.
