THE DIGEST

Last chance: Orso Costume drive 🦸👸🧑‍🚒👩‍🎤

If you’re still costume shopping, grab an extra costume for a child in need. David and Dawn Orso are doing a costume collection for Sarah’s House, an emergency shelter where children represent over half the population. Drop off new or gently used Halloween costumes (ages 6 months to 15 years) by tomorrow (10/25), at the Orso’s office: 8 Evergreen Rd, Severna Park.

County Council says no RV living on public roads 🚐

Anyone staying in a home on wheels and living that #vanlife may find their options in Anne Arundel County are now limited. The County Council recently passed a law banning overnight living in recreational vehicles on public roads, going into effect on December 5. The law, which the council originally passed earlier this month, was vetoed by County Executive Steuart Pittman, who deemed it government overreach. The council voted 6-1 this week to overturn his veto. Those who break the law will be charged with a civil offense and face a $50 fine. ($)

Up the Republic! It’s (nearly) Time to Tug! 💪

The Boat Shows have cleared out of Annapolis Harbor, and that means just one thing: it’s time to throw a 1700-foot, 850-pound rope across Spa Creek and see if Team Eastport or Team Annapolis is stronger. That’s right, the beloved Tug of War is less than 10 days away – Nov. 2 at high noon. It’s the Grudge that Demands a Tug, with Eastport residents still sour about the Annapolis Dept. of Public Works’ choice to close off the Eastport bridge in 1997. A brief secession followed (along with a pretty strong hangover), and every year Eastport celebrates the act of defiance with exceptional feats of strength.

This year is significant since Annapolis pulled in a W last year. You can watch Eastport residents deliver the official proclamation of war to the Annapolis City Council on October 28, but whatever you do, get your mates together (33 in total) and come join the fun.

DPCF Jingle Bell Run 👟

Ready to run into the holiday season—literally? Mark your calendar for December 14, 6–10 PM, at the Charles Carroll House (107 Duke of Gloucester St) and be sure to reserve your spot.

Like proud parents, we’re going to brag again. Navy Football’s 51-17 win over Charlotte brings their record to 6-0 and 4-0 in the American Athletic Conference. This marks Navy’s first 6-0 start since 1979 (and 7th in program history) and makes them bowl-eligible for the first time since 2019. The Mids are one of just 11 undefeated teams in the nation, alongside BYU, Oregon, and our rival Army.

Navy’s next challenge (and by far the toughest yet) is facing No. 12 Notre Dame at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, where they’ll aim for their first 7-0 start since 1979. Catch it at noon on ABC or stream on ESPN+. And as always, GO NAVY BEAT THE IRISH.
