Bay Bridge Boat Show at Safe Harbor Narrows Point – Same Great Show, Awesome New Location

After 26 years on the island, the Bay Bridge Boat Show is moving eastward to Safe Harbor Narrows Point in Grasonville (April 11–13). The move comes with some exciting perks. Within a mile of the show (made walkable and bikeable by the Cross-Island Trail) there are eight restaurants, four hotels, a nature park, and over 800 parking spaces. That means it’s easier than ever to turn a trip to the boat show into a fun day by the bay that the whole family will enjoy. Outdoor and in-water, there will be over 250 boats to climb aboard and explore. Plus, there will be food trucks, vendors, a pool bar, demo rides, free boating seminars, oyster shucking tutorials, and so much more. Learn more at BayBridgeBoatShow.com.

Australian city of Frankston wants to exchange friendship bracelets with Annapolis

Lots of cities have sister cities. Annapolis has seven:

Frankston, a suburb of Melbourne in Australia, might be our first Friendship City. Frankston’s mayor, Kris Bolam, visited Annapolis last month to meet with our own mayor, Gavin Buckley, who also happens to be from Australia. They swapped notes on things like coastal protection, downtown revitalization, and ambitious projects. Ours = City Dock, theirs = one of Australia’s biggest tree planting initiatives.

Annapolis city council has already approved a Friendship City agreement. Frankston’s council votes in May. If approved, Mayor Bolam will be back to visit Mayor Buckley to ink the documents in person. Who said good neighbors had to live close by?

How much money does burning socks actually raise? 🔥🧦

Raise your hand if you tossed stinky socks in a fire at the Annapolis Maritime Museum last weekend. That classic Eastport tradition is actually a fundraiser for the Maritime Museum’s education programs and it raised $103,000! Oh, and we won’t say I told you so if you didn’t buy tickets fast enough. But just trust us next year when we say it’s gonna sell out fast.

Timber Pizza’s expanding again 🍕

Much like my cousin Eric who’s now about 6’6”, Timber Pizza just can’t stop growing. After nearly a decade in DC, co-owner Chris Brady brought his wood-fired pizza to his hometown of Annapolis last year. And this year, he’s back at it with another shop in Edgewater – the Market at South River Colony to be specific. The Timber team didn’t announce an opening date but rest assured, when they do, you’ll be the first to know. Until then, grab a Timber pizza anytime at 192 West Street. We recommend the Bentley.

Meet Visual Comfort & Co.

If you can’t go into a chic home store without breaking out your wallet, you might want to stay away from Beacon Square. Last month we wrote about Arhaus opening and today we’re writing about its neighbor, Visual Comfort & Co. They’re both gorgeous inside and out and a perfect fit to be neighbors. Arhaus sells the furniture and decor; Visual Comfort sells the fixtures. You can check them out at 2500 Riva Road.

Foodie Friday: Our favorite places to eat outside 😎

Food just tastes better outside, and this weekend’s weather forecast says outdoor dining is the special of the day. So here’s where you might find us.

Chessie’s Wharf | 609 Melvin Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401 West Annapolis’ star watering hole’s outdoor seating is the perfect place to savor a mouth-watering Chessie Burger or Pretzel Bites. Tip: add crab dip to those bites to prove you’re from MD.

Davis’ Pub | 400 Chester Ave, Annapolis, MD 21403 Don’t be fooled by the casual picnic tables in Eastport. Lauren spilled the name of her unborn child here after a delightful fried food coma. 🤤 Fried pickle connoisseurs who know chips > spears will be in heaven. Buffalo Style Chicken Strips are a must.

Bread and Butter Kitchen | 303 Second St A, Annapolis, MD 21403 Another Eastport gem, breakfast lovers or those in need of a quick lunch should look no further. Avocado Toast, Southern Chicken Biscuit, and their famous BBK sandwich are served all day.

Severn Inn | 1993 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Annapolis, MD 21409 A deck overlooking the Severn River and Naval Academy makes this a go-to for special occasions. While pricey ($55 for adults; $27.50 for kids), the Sunday Buffet Brunch is legendary, featuring exquisite seafood and the breakfast foods of dreams. Want to be a hero? Make a Mother’s Day reservation now.

The Choptank | 110 Compromise Street, Annapolis, MD 21401 Level 2 offers the best view of Ego Alley. And there’s no shortage of seafood on the menu. Pop in for a cocktail and app like Maryland Crab Dip or stay for a large plate like Seafood Pasta. Also one of the best burgers in town.

Catch a Film (or 80)

The 13th Annual Annapolis Film Festival is this weekend! Opening night was last night (catch a preview of that on our Instagram). Between shorts, feature films, and the documentaries, there are around 80 films so if you can’t find something you like, that may be a you problem . . .

Movies are showing at 6 locations around town with Maryland Hall being the premier venue. It’s not just movies though. There are industry panels and coffee talks so attendees can go way beyond watching on a screen.

Passes start at $125 and single-film tickets are $20. Enjoy the show and don’t forget to turn your phone off 🤫

CIVIL NEWS

Annapolis PD revives accreditation

Last May, Annapolis PD lost its CALEA accreditation – widely considered the gold standard for police departments. CALEA is no joke with certification involving over 450 standards that must be met. Police Chief Ed Jackson said the department lost CALEA because it prioritized safety in the community over admin duties (like the paperwork required to keep CALEA up to date). Chief Jackson promised in May that he’d get the prestigious certification back and as of Wednesday, Annapolis PD is once again CALEA accredited.
