Pop-Up Resource Fairs 🏘️

Every Thursday from now until October 10, the City of Annapolis Mayor’s Office NO HARM team will host weekly community service and resource pop-ups in neighborhoods across Annapolis. Building on the successful inaugural series of pop-up fairs last summer, the 2024 Pop-Up Tour will bring community services and resource providers directly to residents in their neighborhoods. Expect free food, refreshments, games, and more during each event, running 3–6 PM outside. Resources include financial literacy, nutritional health, food banks, and free household essentials. The full schedule with locations is here.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Theater Talk Tuesday 🎭

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
An enchanted forest, fairies, mischief, and a guy with a donkey head . . . what’s not to like in this classic rom-com from that old rascal, Shakespeare? Classic Theater of Maryland’s midsummer run of this production offers shows Thursdays–Sundays through July 28. We know this production will be dreamy in CTM’s expert hands.

The Talent Machine Co. Presents Young Frankenstein
The talented young stars of The Talent Machine Co. (ages 5-18) bring this Mel Brooks classic to life at the Pascal Center for Performing Arts at AACC. The production promises amazing dance numbers and laugh-out-loud comedy! The show runs through July 21.

Compass Rose Theater’s Alice in Wonderland
One of the most whimsical and beloved children’s stories of all time comes to life onstage at Compass Rose Theater in a student production this month. This version of Alice in Wonderland offers a new look at the classic and runs weekends July 19-28 with evening and matinee performances.

Rec & Parks Fun Day 🎉

5 words: human Hungry Hungry Hippos game. But if that’s not enough to entice you to this family-friendly event at the Pip Moyer Center, there will also be an obstacle course, a petting zoo, free swimming, face painting, and more. It’s called Community Fun Day and it’s on Saturday from 10 AM–2 PM. RSVP on Facebook.

Fern and Folly at ATC 🍹✨

Annapolis Town Center is hosting another cool event on August 3. And, we don’t just mean cool as in awesome, but refreshing too. Fern and Folly: A Garden to Glass Soirée with Vintage Views will be an enchanting evening on the green from 6–9 PM. The pop-up garden party will commemorate the end of summer with handcrafted garden-fresh cocktails, botanical mocktails, and a curated selection of appetizers. The event will also feature music and vintage flair by the Dapper DJs. Guests are encouraged to wear vintage-inspired cocktail attire. Get tickets.

Annapolis Together in TEAL 🏃‍♀️

Sure, there will be walking at the Annapolis Together in TEAL event on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 8:30 AM at Westfield Annapolis Mall. But it’s “more than a walk.” Join the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s mission to save lives through the prevention and cure of ovarian cancer.

Registration is free this year. Start or join a team, register as an individual, or donate. Registered participants who raise at least $100 receive a swanky event t-shirt. Anyone who raises at least $1,000 is considered a VIP and will be recognized at the event. Registered survivors receive a special t-shirt too.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.

AACC drops women’s lacrosse 💔 đŸĽ

Here’s some sad news. . . Soon after Harford Community College and Monroe Community College folded their women’s lacrosse programs, the National Junior College Athletic Association announced Thursday it’ll no longer sponsor it as a varsity sport starting in the 2024-25 school year.

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), one of four junior college women’s lacrosse programs still standing, decided to shut down its program. On the positive side, women’s lacrosse is growing elsewhere. Since 2004, 51 Division I schools have added it as a varsity sport, while 19 junior colleges have dropped it. The Riverhawks leave a legacy of 3 national championships, 58 All-Americans, and a record of 215-68. Jim Griffiths, the only head coach in AACC’s women’s lacrosse’s 21-year history, will remain at the school as a women’s soccer coach.
