Good morning, Annapolis. I’d like to propose an alternative phrase to “It’s good to be back” inspired by friend of the Scoop Cheryl Hickox, “It’s good to be seen.”

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Weekday fun 🎪

  • Triple Crown of Charity Sailing

  • Big Bean’s getting bigger

Let’s get to it.

P.S. Happy birthday to Linda Halstead! 🎂

The Ultimate Holiday Activity Guide

Annapolis is a magical place during the holidays. Some nights it feels like something straight out of a Norman Rockwell. There’s so much stuff happening during the holidays it can make your head spin. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of everything you won’t want to miss.

P.S. We’ll be updating this often so check back regularly 🙂

A Waterfront Oasis in Eastport

Study after study confirms that living near a large body of water increases our happiness. And as the Annapolis waterways go, Back Creek is one of the best. Finding a home like 702 Warren Drive is quite rare.

Every inch of this home has been thoughtfully designed to maximize the stunning water views. Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac, this recently renovated creekside getaway feels brand new – featuring a new kitchen, roof, windows, and doors—just to name a few.

And one of this home’s main highlights? The location. It's on the outskirts of quiet Eastport. Annapolis' top restaurants, neighborhood bars, and beautiful downtown are just a quick bike or boat ride away.

Welcome to Eastport. Welcome home. Contact Brad Kappel for your private tour today.

THE DIGEST

The moments you remember forever 🎙️

Ever wondered what it’s like to call an iconic play-by-play? Like Jim Nantz calling Tiger’s Masters win in 2019, Al Michaels’ “Do you believe in miracles?”, Pete Medhurst calling Navy safety Rayuan Lane’s 97-yard interception last weekend. . . . Find out exactly what Pete was feeling during the moment on today’s Anchors Aweigh Podcast.

Pete and co-host Bill Wagner also discussed Navy volleyball’s epic 5-set comeback against Army and interviewed water polo coach Luis Nicolau and sprint football coach Alfonso Meidus, who just beat Army for the sprint football championship. It’s an action-packed podcast and a must for any Navy sports fan. Real fans, click here to listen.

Triple Crown of Charity Sailing awarded

Winning sailing races is fun (not that I would know) but you know what’s really fun? Winning sailboat races and raising lots of money. That’s why the CRAB Cup, Maryland Cures Cancer Regatta, and Hospice Cup teamed up to create the Triple Crown of Charity Sailing. The winner is determined by the place finished in each race and amount of money raised.

This year presented a unique situation. Tracey and Warren Richter tied two-time winner John Heintz for first place and accepted the trophy together. Combined they raised almost $28,000. Coming in third place was the 2021 winner John Dodge with almost $15,000 raised.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Big Bean’s getting even bigger ☕

For 19 years, there was only one Big Bean coffee shop; it was in Severna Park on Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. Then in 2019, husband-and-wife duo Christie and Greg Coster bought it. In 2021, they opened a second shop at 888 Bestgate Road – a Scoop favorite since it’s right down the street from the office. Well, it’s time to break out the champagne again because Greg and Christie are opening a third cafe.

This one’s a bit outside the Scoop radius (231 Najoles Road, Millersville, MD) but much like Always Ice Cream’s expansion announcement last week, we wanted to congratulate the Costers and wish them luck.

Yoga Barn is Turning ✌️

We’ve all heard the stats that most new businesses don’t survive the first year, much less two. Yoga Barn heard that and said, “Namastay in business.” I’ll see myself out. . . Celebrate Yoga Barn’s two-year anniversary on Saturday (11/18) and Sunday (11/19) at 44 W Earleigh Heights Rd in Severna Park.

Enjoy $5 classes indoors all weekend. See the schedule here 🧘

In between your zen, visit a local artisan and food market outside. Coffee, hot cocoa, and baked treats from The Coffee Trailer along with fresh-pressed Rasa Juice and BBQ are just a few offerings.

Split Ends Salon moves in Severna Park

Split Ends Beauty Spa & Wellness has been in business in Severna Park for over 20 years. But this week, they’re opening in a brand new location. Since they know a thing or two about cutting stuff, they’re celebrating with a ribbon cutting today at noon. And if you can’t make that there’s an open house all day with food and beverages, holiday gifts, and raffles. Check it out at 770 Ritchie Highway Suite W13, Severna Park, MD 21146.
