Our Most Photographed Landmark, Free Trees, Mosquito Spraying...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Nobody’s laughing in movie theaters anymore. In 2024, Hollywood released zero live-action comedies. This year? Only two. So where are they laughing? On the couch. 47 million people watched Happy Gilmore 2 in its first few days on Netflix. And here I haven’t even seen the trailer.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • The Most Photographed Landmark

  • Free Trees

  • Mosquito Spraying Activity

Let’s get to it.

A Timeless Retreat in Belvoir Farms

Set on a quiet cul-de-sac in Crownsville’s sought-after Belvoir Farms, this stately 5-bedroom, 5.5-bath Colonial offers refined living across more than 7,000 square feet. Mature trees and graceful lawns surround the one-acre homesite, creating a sense of privacy and calm.

Inside, formal living and dining rooms complement a sunlit family room, gourmet kitchen, and spacious main-level bedroom. Upstairs, the primary suite features a fireplace, custom closet, and serene treetop views. The finished third level adds flexible space, while the lower level is made for entertaining — with a full bar, media room, and rec area.

Outdoors, an expansive terrace includes a Viking kitchen and heated saltwater plunge pool with smart controls. A detached garage with finished space above offers room for guests or work-from-home ease.

Belvoir Farms residents enjoy water access, walking trails, a marina, and more.

How We Arrived Here

A highly unscientific yet still scientific approach where we counted the number of pictures for each landmark’s specific hashtags, presence in the #annapolis hashtag, the landmark’s Instagram location, and number of photos on TripAdvisor and Google Images. We then assigned these weights to calculate the “most photographed” landmark in Annapolis

  • Specific hashtag: 25%

  • #Annapolis: 20%

  • Location: 25%

  • TripAdvisor: 25%

  • Google Images: 5%

Dog of the Week: Louie Momo đŸŸ

There’s nothing wrong with getting old—it happens to the best of us—but it can sometimes make it tough for rescue dogs in a world where everyone wants a puppy. Louie Momo arrived at the SPCA last fall and is currently being fostered, but this Yorkie/Maltese terrier, described as a “sweet old soul,” is looking for a forever home. He uses Toe Grips to stay steady on his aging feet, loves sleeping on laps, and can’t resist treats (dude, same). Even though he has limited hearing and sight, it sounds like he doesn’t have any limits on love.

Free Trees! 🌳

In an effort to grow the city’s urban green canopy, the City of Annapolis is offering free trees with just three stipulations:

  1. You must be an Annapolis resident (sorry, county folks)

  2. You must have a suitable spot for planting near a public right-of-way.

  3. You must promise to love and care for the tree for three years.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Graze Craze is Coming to Annapolis

We love a good charcuterie board, if you’re looking for a clever way of bribing us. But the thing about charcuterie boards is that they’re incredibly challenging to put together, especially when you have large groups or picky eaters. The art, the curation of snacks, and the portion control are challenges best left to the professionals.

So it’s good to hear that Graze Craze, a new venture in snacking all day, is coming to Annapolis. The concept is to provide charcuterie boards, boxes, and spreads catered to your company’s needs and demands, allowing them to eat throughout the day rather than having to plan multiple meals. Three Graze Craze locations are opening starting with Elliott City this fall; Annapolis and Odenton are set to follow shortly afterward. ($)

Annual Back-to-School Holiday 💾

🚹 Shoppers — this is NOT a drill. 🚹

Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week runs Sunday (8/10) through Saturday (8/16). Certain clothing, footwear, backpacks, and bookbags are eligible for tax-free purchase. Think sweaters, shirts, pants, dresses, belts, shoes, and boots priced at $100 or less. The first $40 of a backpack/bookbag purchase is also tax-exempt.

It can get a little confusing but it’s worth breaking out those math skills because, hey, it is back to school time. Even if your total purchase exceeds $100, items priced individually under that amount are still tax-free. Buy two pairs of Vans at $75 each? No tax! Online purchases paid and delivered during the tax-free week count, too.

CIVIL NEWS

Mosquito Spraying Near Herald Harbor

Think the mosquitoes have been bad lately? You might not be imagining things. The Maryland Department of Agriculture is conducting unscheduled mosquito spraying tonight (weather depending) near the intersections of Herald Harbor and Hall Roads. The truck-based spraying will happen after 7:30 PM. And while the EPA says it’s safe, it’s still a good idea to stay inside during spraying.
