🍦What's replacing Mangia at City Dock?
How safe is the Bay Bridge, Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, Maryland Pizza and Pints Festival...
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. We made two mistakes on Friday. We always like to own up to our mistakes first thing right here at the top of the newsletter.
The Good Neighbors Group Earth Day Festival is April 27 from 11 AM – 3 PM at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company.
There will still be outdoor dining tables at Market Space and on Inner West Street. They’re just governed by a different process than the bill that just passed City Council.
And now onto today’s Scoop.
Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST
Public Meeting: Annapolis Water Reclamation Facility Odor Control Updates 💦👃
This may not sound glamorous, but trust us . . . it’s a big sniffin’ deal. Public Works is hosting a public meeting on April 23 to share info on odor control upgrades, design, and more going on at the Annapolis Water Reclamation Facility. An industrial hygienist will also break down recent monitoring results. Head to Eastport-Annapolis Neck Community Library from 6–7 PM. Smell yah later!
MD looks into the safety of the Bay Bridge
Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board dropped a diss track report saying 68 U.S. bridges frequented by ocean-going vessels needed modern risk assessments. Our not-so-beloved Bay Bridge was one of the 68 and Maryland just did the assessment. The results? Neither span meets current thresholds for ship strikes. They wouldn’t say how far below the threshold, but the Key Bridge was 30 times higher than acceptable risk thresholds by the same standards.
The state’s now eyeing short-term steps like lowering speed limits and tightening communications. Long-term ideas include fenders or dolphins – not the squeaky cute kind, the concrete kind that guard bridge piers from ships. The project is in the study phase now and will move to the design phase this summer. And don’t forget, Maryland is also studying the possibility of building an entirely new Bay Bridge. ($)

LOCAL BUSINESS
Authentic Mexican coming to City Dock
Cinco de Mayo cannot come fast enough! Because the restaurant group behind La Sierra Mexican in Annapolis and Pitaya Mexican in Severna Park has recently announced it will be opening its third location, Palma Mexican, in the space formerly occupied by Mangia Italian Grill. Both Pitaya and La Sierra have huge, inventive menus that extend far beyond tacos and burritos, and we can’t wait to see what Palma brings to the table. Opening date is set for early May. 81 Main St.
