THE DIGEST
Local officials head to Sweden ✈️ 💚
Annapolis and Anne Arundel officials are packing their bags for Sweden. At the end of September, 17 local leaders – including County Executive Steuart Pittman and Mayor Buckley – will jet off to Stockholm and Gothenburg to study sustainable infrastructure and environmental research. Sweden is a leader in combining sustainability with human well-being.
The Maryland delegation will meet with urban planners, transportation experts, and government leaders with a focus on reducing greenhouse gases by 60% below 2006 levels and boosting the economy through alternative transportation. This trip builds on last year’s visit to the Netherlands, where officials learned about flood protection technology. ($)

LOCAL BUSINESS
Welcome, Groundswell Yoga! 🧘♂️
Groundswell Yoga will celebrate their Grand Opening this Sunday (9/22) with 3 free all-level yoga classes and light refreshments from Grumps Cafe and Annapolis Juice Shop. Groundswell owner Duffy Perkins, former owner of Blue Lotus Yoga Studio, says they will offer vinyasa, yin, Hatha, and Pilates classes.
Groundswell is located inside the historic Opera House building at 48 Maryland Avenue, which dates back to 1873! Stop by the grand opening to see the “shala” (Sanskrit for “home”) — a gorgeous, airy space where you can put your mat on the very floors where operas and musicals once took place! 🧘♂️

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
Theater Tuesday 🎭
The new season of theater continues around Annapolis this week with two productions that opened recently:
Colonial Players presents Tiny Beautiful Things
This adaptation of a bestselling book is based on a true story about an advice columnist who taps into her life experiences to answer the hard questions. Showtimes through September 28.
Compass Rose Theater presents Intimate Apparel
Style and social commentary come together in this romantic story about Esther, a Black seamstress in 1905 NYC who sews clothes for the elites and the marginalized alike. It runs through October 6.
Green Drinks 🍸️
Here’s the bad news: Yesterday we mistakenly filed this week’s Green Drinks event under the wrong day in our weekly events listings. We apologize.
Please join Annapolis Green for Green Drinks at Pusser’s from 5:30–7:30 PM on Wednesday (9/18). (Not Thursday,)
Good news? We got more deets about the event: Green Drinks will be outside in the Dock Bar with Timmie Metz playing. "Sustainability on the Water" is the theme.
West Annapolis Oktoberfest 🍺
Prost! West Annapolis celebrates Oktoberfest this weekend with a family-friendly day of fun, food, and festivities 11 AM–4 PM Sunday along Annapolis Street. There will be live music, plus great eats from food vendors and unique shopping from product vendors. Be sure to stop by the Beer Garden offering a selection of local and traditional beers brought to you by Chessie's Wharf RAR. 🇩🇪
Tickets still available: Boatyard Beach Bash 🦜
When you attend the Boatyard Beach Bash this weekend, you might just feel like you walked through a portal to Key West. This music event on Saturday 4–10 PM at Annapolis Maritime Museum pays tribute to Jimmy Buffet with a lineup of world-class musicians performing the late artist’s signature island style.
VIP tickets have sold out, but there are still general admission tickets available, which include not only 6 hours of entertainment but also drinks and food.🍹 Funds raised from the concert will benefit the museum’s mission of preserving maritime history and environmental stewardship.
Art in the Park 🎨
Now’s the time to reserve your tickets for Art in the Park, happening September 29, 1–5 PM, at Cafe Mezzanotte (760 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park). This afternoon event combines all kinds of arts, from music to culinary. Listen to the Grilled Lincolns featuring Andy Hall with the Betas as you check out local artist displays. Food on offer will include smoked meats, vegetables, pasta, local ice cream, and much more. Proceeds from the event benefit Partners in Care. Get tickets.
Securing the Nation Conference 🗓️
Save the date: October 17. The U.S. Naval Institute – a non-profit, non-partisan org based at the Naval Academy – is hosting its annual fall conference from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM at the Jack C. Taylor Conference Center (291 Wood Rd. Annapolis, MD). Securing the Nation will focus on one of the most timely issues facing the nation and U.S. military. A VIP speaker lineup, including Vice Chairman of S&P Global Dr. Daniel Yergin and Assistant Secretary of the Navy The Hon. Meredith Berger, will discuss topics like national security, the American economy, and the future of energy. Register now.
Libbey’s Oyster Shuckdown 🦪
Aw, shucks — you definitely don’t want to miss the second annual Fall Oyster Shuckdown at Libbey’s Coastal Kitchen + Cocktails (357 Pier One Road, Stevensville), set for October 19 (rain date October 20), 3–6 PM. The day’s menu includes oysters prepared all kinds of ways — raw, fried, baked, and more — plus a barbecue station and an open bar with beer and wine. Enjoy live music by Chesapeake Suns while you soak in the sunset view of the Chesapeake Bay.
A portion of the ticket sales benefits Hope for Hunter. Hunter, the 13-year-old daughter of local business owners Lauren and Eric Clough, is courageously battling cancer for the third time. Reserve tickets.
