🍦Where is Peter Frank? 🛶

Lights & Leashes, Ceremony Coffee's new chapter, AMM free for vets

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. This is Naptown Scoop, where reading the news is almost as exciting as paddling the Great Loop in a canoe. Backwards. 🛶

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Lights on the Bay: Lights & Leashes 🐕 🎅

  • Ceremony Coffee Roasters brews bold new chapter ☕️

  • Annapolis Maritime Museum free for veterans this weekend 🦀 🎖️

Let’s get to it.

If you see a rabbit fur-hatted, pirate-dressed canoeist while you’re out boating this week, it may just be you’ve spotted Peter Frank, a 23-year old Michigan man attempting to canoe all 6,000 miles of the Great Loop, the waterway circling the eastern United States and parts of Canada. Not to mention, he’s doing it backwards (clockwise), a route that is more difficult due to going against the current in parts of the journey. Peter is currently just 133 days into a trip that will likely last 17 months. He started in Escanaba, Michigan in late June, and hopes to cross his wake in November of 2025. This is not his first massive expedition: he’s traveled 2,400 miles by unicycle from Wisconsin to Arizona to raise money for The Beacon House; he’s paddled the Mississippi River in a handmade canoe; and he’s bicycled 700 miles, many of those miles with a kitten he rescued as a travel companion.

Peter was all too happy to pause his usual diet of beef jerky, avocado, and fruit to meet the Naptown Scoop team for lunch at Boatyard Bar and Grill on Wednesday to sample some Maryland seafood classics. We had a great conversation and can’t wait to share some more of Peter’s daring stories with Scoop readers next week – watch this space! Until then, keep a lookout for this inspiring adventurer!

Supporting Women and Families in Anne Arundel County – Together

Hi Scoop. It’s Dr. Murthy. I’m thrilled to share that Murthy Facial Plastic Surgery is now a Leadership Sponsor of Anne Arundel Women Giving Together (AAWGT)! This incredible organization is devoted to improving life for women and families in our community – from grant-making to community-based organizations to presenting free educational sessions on critical issues that impact all of us.

As we enter this season of gratitude, I invite you to learn more about AAWGT by joining us at their upcoming program via Zoom, Affordable Housing: Building a Brighter Future for Women and Families. It’s November 18. Register here to reserve your spot.

Since opening my practice in 2022, I’ve had the privilege of caring for so many amazing women and families. This is one small way Murthy Facial Plastic Surgery gets to give back.

Hope to see you there!

Warmly,

 Dr. Namita Murthy

Where were we Wednesday? 📸

ANSWER:

This might look like a strange AI rendering of an outdoor scene . . . but we would never do that to you! These cut-out kitties and their spider friend are hanging out behind the Visit Annapolis office, visible from the parking loop off Northwest St. and behind Gott’s Garage. If you wanna visit them, better hop to it, because we have a feeling all the fall deco is going to be replaced with holiday stuff pretty soon!

Thanks for playing and congrats to @mike.bireley and @srjoshkinard for being the only 2 to answer correctly. 🎉

LOCAL BUSINESS

Ceremony Coffee Roasters brews bold new chapter ☕️

Annapolis-based Ceremony Coffee Roasters just got an extra shot of support from FairWave Specialty Coffee Collective, who acquired them in late October. The acquisition of Ceremony’s six Maryland locations (2 in Annapolis, 3 in Baltimore, and 1 in Bethesda), along with its roasting operations and administrative office, marks the Kansas City, Missouri-based coffee collective’s debut outside the Midwest. There, it oversees 11 specialty coffee companies in 4 states. Ceremony’s warm atmosphere (and drinks!) will remain the same, with added support, resources, and expertise. Vincent Iatesta — who founded Ceremony Coffee Roasters in 2002 — will continue to lead the company.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Foodie Friday 🍔

Writer Lauren here. 👋 My hubby and I recently had a date night at Chessie’s Wharf in cozy West Annapolis. It was my second time there, so basically I’m an expert . . . or just a local who acts like a tourist. Here’s what you should know about this tap room and burger joint.

Happy Hour is Monday to Friday, from 2–6 PM. Get nachos, boneless wings, Chessie Burger, Chessie Chicken Sandwich, Veggie Chessie, and House Salad for $9. Everything but the nachos and salad come with fries! Discounted drinks include: $5 Core Beers, $6 Select Mixed Drinks, $7 House Wine, and $8 House Margs and Crushes. 🍻🍹

PSA: the Chessie Burger is sublime. And, the Chessie monster emblem is the coolest bun topping. They also have tons of fall-inspired cocktails: Apple Cider Donut, Bourbon Blood Orange Sour, Blackberry Checkmate, among others.

A Slice of Thanksgiving Bliss 🥧

Earlier this week we shared “Thanksgiving Dinner Options from Local Restaurants”. Now we’re hyper-focused on Turkey day treats from Chef BIG Money. The Annapolis baker is selling large, fresh-baked pies for $28 in Apple, Apple Caramel, Blueberry, Cherry, and Pumpkin flavors. No refrigeration needed . . . perfect because fridges are crowded this time of year! Chef BIG Money is also offering biscuits, dinner rolls, and Honey Oat Loaf Bread. Order now for November 27 pickup at 224 Dubois Rd.

Christmas in a Cup 🍫

For those who like to drink their treats, Middleton Tavern brought back their Peppermint Patty. The drink features Peppermint Schnapps, Dekuyper Crème De Cocoa Dark, whipped cream, and festive, red sprinkles. We’re envisioning every holiday rom-com where someone gets whipped cream on their nose. ❤️

Museum trip for veterans 🦀 🎖️

Got plans for this weekend leading into Veterans Day? Annapolis Maritime Museum invites you to spend it learning about the local watershed. As a way of honoring those who serve or have served, Annapolis Maritime Museum offers free admission to all military veterans or active-duty service members today through Monday. Stop by to enjoy the beautiful views and explore the rich maritime history of the Chesapeake Bay and its connection to our nation’s military heritage.
