THE DIGEST
Reminder: It’s the Great Naptown Bake Off! 🍪 🌟
Who knew Annapolis was such a cookie town? We are blown away by the response to our call for cookie recipes. We have loved reading your personal stories about the recipes, seeing the handwritten recipe cards, and dreaming about all the cookie taste-testing in our future. Thank you to everyone who has submitted so far.
But in case you missed our first announcement, just a reminder that we are accepting recipes through the end of the week (11/30), so you still have time to submit. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to Williams Sonoma, a $100 gift card to Black Market Bakers, and the distinct pleasure of having their recipe published on the Naptown Scoop Journal. We will also publish the top two runner-up recipes.
Submit recipes to [email protected]. 🍪
P.S.– We got a question about whether dessert “bar” recipes are being accepted and the answer is yes – if it’s sweet, your family loves it, and it comes in some sort of handheld bar/cookie form, we would love to try your recipe!
Parking Deals 🅿️ 🚗
Don’t forget — there’s no parking meter enforcement on Thanksgiving. Same goes on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Even better, city officials are bringing back the tradition of free holiday parking between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. You can get 2 hours at downtown Annapolis’ metered/kiosk spaces or 1 hour at the Hillman Garage using the ParkMobile app. Make your holiday shopping and celebrations in Annapolis stress-free with these parking perks!
Waste collection and facilities holiday schedule ♻️🗑️
We’d hate to waste a chance to keep you in the loop on schedule changes for Thanksgiving:
Thursday, 11/28: No curbside collection; Waste Management Services (WMS) facilities closed
Friday, 11/29: Thursday customers get curbside collection; WMS facilities closed
Saturday, 11/30: Friday customers get curbside collection; WMS facilities open
Note: Thursday and Friday Pasadena customers should place recycling, trash, and yard waste at the curb by 6 AM on Friday, 11/29. Recycling collection will begin 11/29 and finish by 11/30.
🕵️♂️ A mystery donor for CFAAC
Someone out there is matching your contributions to Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County’s annual campaign through the end of the year. We don’t know the identity of the mystery donor, but we do know this is a great opportunity to double your contribution. Donate between now and Dec. 31 to support CFAAC’s mission of addressing important local issues and you’ll be matched dollar for dollar until the foundation surpasses its $20K goal.
DNR lifts burn ban 🔥
Maryland DNR lifted its temporary ban on open-air burning that it recently put in place to prevent wildfire spread. Why was there a ban in the first place? Because we had such a dry summer, Maryland experienced an above average number of wildfires in October. DNR put the ban in place per the recommendation of the Maryland Forest Service, whose firefighters had responded to 50 wildland fires before the ban went into effect. After rain this month (and looking ahead to rainy forecasts), officials decided it was safe to rescind the ban, though we should all continue being cautious while much of Maryland is still in a drought.

LOCAL BUSINESS
Seasalt is now open . . . at 1 Park Place
You know how sometimes you walk in a room and forget why you went in there? Or come home from the store with all the things except for the one thing you needed? Well, we had a major mental glitch in last Friday’s Scoop when we mentioned newly-opened Seasalt in Foodie Friday. Unfortunately, we gave you the wrong location and for that we are sorry.
Seasalt is located at 1 Park Place, Unit #7. Get your reservations to try their award-winning cocktails and creative seafood dishes with global flavors. Or stop by for Anchovy Hours, 3:30–6:30 PM, Monday through Friday. We can’t wait to check out this amazing menu . . . and to do so, we will go to 1 Park Place (not Eastport 🤦♀️).
Annapolis Bridal & Tuxedo to close after 40 years 👰🤵
It’s time to say “Sew long and thank you!” to a team that has handled alterations for many a momentous Annapolis event. Annapolis Bridal & Tuxedo has announced it will close on December 23 after nearly 40 years in business. This gives mother-and-daughter owners Dora and Flavia the chance to enjoy retirement and family time, respectively. All final alterations will be completed and tuxedo rentals are still available for events through December 23.
