Scoop’s back in the podcast game
No, we’re not bringing back the Naptown Scoop Show. Our friends Jared Littmann and Vincent Moulden asked us to be part of a project interviewing local changemakers, leaders, and the unsung heroes who make our community thrive. It’s called Community Scoop. Our first interview is Elizamae Robinson – a 93-year-old Annapolitan who organized the longest rent strike in Anne Arundel County, is a published poet, and despite her age, still finds the energy to serve as a mentor and role model to local kids.
Oh, and we listened to you last time. These are short episodes. Today’s is 21 minutes. Listen here!
More about that plane crash 🛩️
In yesterday’s Scoop, we wrote about an 18-year-old who crashed-landed a disabled Cessna 172. Here’s some more info.
After losing power, the single-engine Cessna 172 crash-landed Saturday near Beverly Triton Nature Park. The plane was part of Fort Meade Flight Activity and was one of 6 planes rented out to about 80 members. The (still unidentified) 18-year-old pilot was the only person aboard and was hospitalized in PG County. It’s unclear what credentials the teen pilot had, though the FAA allows student pilots as young as 16 to fly alone.
The aircraft completed several short flights before the crash, taking off from Tipton Airport in Fort Meade around noon and last departing Delaware Airpark in Cheswold at 3:15 PM, about 30 minutes before it crashed. Authorities, including the FAA and NTSB, are investigating. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days, with a final report taking up to two years. ($)
200K diapers for Walk the Walk Foundation 👶
How many diapers does a baby use before potty training? 7,000. That’s a lot of diapers and a lot of dollars. The work that Walk the Walk Foundation does with the National Diaper Bank and other agencies to provide free diapers to low-income families is crucial. But those diapers don’t come out of nowhere — and demand was up 81% last year over 2023. All of this gives you a pretty leak-proof appreciation of what it means for the Huggies brand to donate 200K diapers to Walk the Walk. They’ll be delivered tomorrow morning, and will go a long way in the foundation’s work. It’s equal to about half the diapers Walk the Walk distributed last year.

LOCAL BUSINESS
Reader Recommendations: Blue Heron Property Service
“A few years ago we decided to try Blue Heron Property Services when we needed our house and roof pressure washed. We saw the ad in the Scoop and thought we would support a local business. They made the process simple from start to finish. We sent them pictures of the house for the estimate which made the process quick and easy. The owners, a young couple, showed up on time a did an excellent job. They have since returned for additional cleanings. They also do windows! We think they shine even more at this job! When it’s all done and sparkling, you have a clean house, clear windows and two delicious cookies!”
