Hola Agave, Blues in playoffs, monster trucks...

TOGETHER WITH
Brad Kappel key and anchor logo

Good morning, Annapolis. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tell one new friend about Naptown Scoop this week. As always, should you be successful, we’ll reward you with a birthday shoutout or limited-edition Annapolis mug. This email will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Agave is open

  • Häagen-Dazs is coming to Annapolis

  • Annapolis Blues are in the playoffs

Let’s get to it.

—Ryan Sneddon

P.S. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One comes out today. I saw it Monday and it’s fantastic.

Thank you, Dusty

Dusty Poore saved last year’s Anniversary Party. We switched from Thursday to Friday and I didn’t adjust the bar order for weekend vs. weeknight drinking. Rookie move. So we ran out of beer.

Lucky for me, Dusty had extra six packs in his truck. He restocked the bar without even asking. All I remember was him running by, shouting as he passed, “You ran out of beer! I gotcha though!”

That’s why I’m stoked to have Dusty’s brand new beer company, Annapolis Beer Company, sponsor Naptown Scoop’s Third Anniversary Party. In fact, Naptown Scoop’s party will be the unofficial public debut of Dusty’s brand new beers, Annapolis IPA and Annapolis Pilsner.

Annapolis Beer Company’s official launch party is at Stan & Joe’s (where Dusty used to bartend) a week later on August 26. In his words, “Music starts at noon and we plan to party until we’re forced to leave.”

But first, I hope you’ll try Annapolis Beer Company’s new beers at Naptown Scoop’s Third Anniversary Party on August 18 at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Tickets are still available.

Coming Soon in Herald Harbor: Breathtaking view, deep water dock, & private beach

If I had to describe 341 Hall Road in one word, it’d be versatile.

A small family will love it because of the 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. Not to mention Herald Harbor’s amenities – community beach, neighborhood park, even a restaurant. The home even has its own private beach.

Empty nesters will love it because the main-level primary is a stunning setting to age in place.

And of course, boaters will love it. The private, 10 ft MLW pier has a lift and multiple slips. With prime position on Little Round Bay, you’ll reach open water on the Severn River in no time.

Like I said. Versatile. 341 Hall Road is a Swiss Army Knife of a house. Coming soon with Brad Kappel.

THE DIGEST

Northern Lights no show

The Northern Lights stood us up on the first date 😔 Dozens of news orgs reported Monday that aurora borealis would be visible on Thursday. Turns out that forecast was built on outdated data. Only states along the Canadian border could see a glow, experts say. Scoop says don’t go out of your way to cancel your beauty sleep.

Win for the Bay

Experts say the Bay’s “dead zone” will be the smallest yet this summer. Ready for Scoop-simplified biology? Pollutants → algae growth → low oxygen = no marine life. Dead zone. ☠️

More rainfall and decades-long environmental advocacy could be to thank. But leaders say this good news isn’t an excuse to stop caring. Pollution is still a major problem across the Bay.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Agave opens in West Annapolis

While everyone I know is heading to the beach, there’s one notable exception this week. Agave. The Mexican restaurant hailing from Lewes, DE opened its third location in West Annapolis with a sneaky soft opening Saturday. I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for a luckily-timed ice cream craving; they’re neighbors with Always Ice Cream Company. During this soft opening phase, Agave is open for dinner only. Stop by after 5 PM any day. Check out the menu. 106 Annapolis St, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Midsummer’s Night Cruise on the Chesapeake

Networking in a dark conference room ❌ Networking on a sunset cruise 👍️

Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce sets sail for its annual two-hour cruise on Watermark’s Catherine Marie. Sunset pairs well with great networking, appetizers, a cash bar, and prizes. Thursday (7/13) at 6:30 PM from City Dock. Members $50, non-members $75.

🍦Häagen-Dazs coming to Westfield Annapolis

Scoop has scoop on the scoop: Häagen-Dazs is coming to the Westfield Annapolis dining court. Remember MaggieMoo’s circa 2006–2011? Häagen-Dazs will go in its place. There’s something about that spot that screams ice cream. . .

  • Scoop fact: Häagen-Dazs is a made-up word meant to sound Danish. Did it fool you?
