Play in a record store, National Oyster Week, Who is Ruth Carmona...

Good morning, Annapolis. Now that we’re sending Scoop on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have a bunch of new advertising inventory. Previously we were sold out months in advance. So if you want to promote your business, just respond to this email. Good vibes only though – aka no politicians, ambulance chasers, or smear campaigns.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • A play in a record store

  • Who is Ruth Carmona?

  • Tides and Tunes

Let’s get to it.

—Ryan Sneddon, Rebecca Kraybill, & Lauren Burke

P.S. Happy belated birthday to Mae Miklos!

Local business spotlight: NA-RA

Ladies, there’s a new online clothing retailer we can’t wait to tell you about.

NA-RA was born during the pandemic to enhance a woman’s self-image. The founder, Ruth Carmona, grew up in the Philippines and now calls Annapolis home.

She began developing NA-RA’s clothing line with all the unplanned time off she had from her restaurant management job during Covid.

Remember the Zoom shirt days? Thank goodness they’re gone.

Now that calendars are filling up again, we all have to refresh our wardrobes. That’s where NA-RA comes in.

Since we can’t pick just one, here are the top three reasons Scoop ❤️ NA-RA’s clothes:

  • Comfortable

  • Affordable

  • High-quality

Ruth believes her stylish clothes will help women realize their dreams as they navigate today’s complicated business and social settings. The clothes lend themselves to the professional setting, back to school, casual, and our personal favorite: PARTY 🎉

Bring on all the NA-RA jumpsuits and dresses because all-in-one outfits = less decisions. Plus, their versatile tops and bottoms make for easy outfit choices.

We have more good news. Ruth plans to offer pop-up stores later in Annapolis. Until then, check out the online store.

THE DIGEST

đź’˝ Have you heard about the play in a record store?

It’s a play about a record store . . . performed in a record store. Playwright Bob Bartlett’s new rom-com Love and Vinyl is a master of inception and you can see it for yourself at KaChunk!! Records. This play about browsing for records and romance is as cozy as theater gets – Bob only sells 10 tickets per show. Now through August 12 at 8 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. 78 Maryland Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401.

World’s Largest Crab Feast

The world’s largest crab feast is tomorrow (8/4) at Navy Stadium. If you missed tickets for the 78th feast (you snooze, you lose) you can follow Scoop to see what it’s like. All 320 bushels of crabs, 1,800 hot dogs, 3,400 ears of corn, and Sam Adams himself only knows how much beer benefit grant recipients chosen by the host, the Rotary Club of Annapolis. Thanks to a partnership with Annapolis Green, nothing ends in a landfill. Not even the flatware!

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

🌊 Tides and Tunes

There’s only 3 of these left this summer so you better get to one soon. Wheelhouse Rock Band plays at the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s ever-popular concert series, Tides and Tunes, tonight (8/3). Bring your own reusable cup (Tides and Tunes is now a zero-waste event) and drink up because beverage sales support the museum’s education programs. 7–9 PM (8/3). 723 Second St, Annapolis, MD 21403

Weekend Preview

Food Truck Friday. 11 trucks take over the Anne Arundel County Farmers Market parking lot for your TGIF indulgence. 8/4 from 4–8 PM at 275 Harry S Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Summer Concerts at Annapolis Town Center. It’s 80’s night! Weird Science brings the hype (you bring the legwarmers) 5–8 PM Friday (8/4) at Annapolis Town Center’s Boathouse Pavilion next to P.F. Chang’s.

Dinner Under the Stars. Saturday (8/5) features outdoor dining at your favorite West Street restaurants, dancing, pickleball, and live music from Soul Journers. 6–10 PM.

First Sunday Arts Festival. Sunday (8/6) from 11 AM to 5 PM, 100+ vendors take over West Street and People’s Park. Don’t miss live music in the park and Stan & Joe’s parking lot. Explore all vendors.

Plan ahead: Fall boat shows 🛥️ â›µ

Choose your fighter. Do you like to go fast or do you like to go au natural? Is boating about the journey or the destination? Maybe you’re the rare dual threat. Whatever floats your boat, here’s your reminder that the Annapolis boat shows are two months away. Powerboats are October 5–8 and sailboats are October 12–15. See the latest models, shop cool gear, and talk to industry experts. Also the only time of the year when it’s socially acceptable (even encouraged) to drink painkillers at 9 AM. Get tickets.
