SPONSORED BY MURTHY FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY

Dr. Namita Murthy is pleased to introduce FaceTite. In fact, she’s the only plastic surgeon in Annapolis offering FaceTite. So, what is FaceTite?

Think of FaceTite like a facelift without big incisions.

For a normal facelift, Dr. Murthy cuts in the hairline near your temple and around your ear to the lower scalp. She redistributes fat and tissue, redrapes the skin, and trims the excess. Very safe, but still a major surgery.

With FaceTite, Dr. Murthy makes a series of pinhole incisions – so small they don’t even need stitches. She first removes any excess fat and then uses radiofrequency waves (which also stimulate collagen production) to tighten and remodel skin. It’s done under local anesthesia with minimal recovery time.

FaceTite is a major breakthrough in facial contouring. Nothing else this minimally invasive even comes close to matching facelift results the way FaceTite does.

If your face and neck aren’t as tight as you’d like, schedule a comfortable and personalized consultation with Dr. Murthy today.

Also follow Dr. Murthy on Instagram @drnamitamurthy for more information and future specials!

THE DIGEST

The party so popular you can only buy 4 tickets

I wasn’t kidding when I said Scoop’s anniversary parties sell out fast. With one email (just like this one), you awesome folks bought 42% of the tickets. If the same pace continues, your last chance to buy will be Monday. So here’s the deal.

We booked the Annapolis Maritime Museum for August 18. We hired Ken’s Creative Kitchen to make dinner (and shuck oysters). And we hired a steel drummer to set the mood.

It’s a great place to meet your fellow Scoop readers, Annapolis’ top business minds (like our headline sponsor Brad Kappel), and the Scoop team. Plus ticket proceeds go to Charting Careers so you can feel good about attending. Get your tickets here.

🚴‍♀️ The world’s toughest bike race ends in Annapolis

Annapolis is an awesome town, but we don’t make the national stage very often. So it’s pretty cool to see Race Across America put its finish line at our City Dock. It’ll be even cooler when City Dock’s redone. But I digress. Dozens of intrepid cyclists are hurtling toward Annapolis as we speak. 13 miles per hour isn’t usually considered hurtling on a bike but when you’ve pedaled 2,946 miles in 8 days, it’s pretty damn fast.

52-year-old Swiss badass woman Isa Pulver is currently leading the solo riders. According to the projections, she should arrive at City Dock this morning. Click here to track the riders live.

LOCAL BUSINESS

🦀 đŸŽ‚ You won’t believe where we did our latest crab cake review

If I told anyone outside of Annapolis that our local old school diner serves killer seafood, they’d probably think I’m nuts. But since this is Annapolis, we know better. So when my friend Laurie tipped me off that Mortgage Wes and I should probably try Double T Diner’s crabcakes, I believed her. And spoiler alert: She wasn’t wrong. See what we scored the cakes and as always, thanks to Blue Heron Property Services for sponsoring. If your house needs a pressure wash, call Blue Heron – The House Wash Pros.

🐶🚲🛶 New doghouse

Bulldog Bikes and Floats, Severna Park’s home for all things that roll or float, has some new digs. Check it out with a ribbon cutting Saturday from 11–11:45 AM. The store will be open 10 AM–4 PM. 504 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146.

👩‍🎨 Annapolis Artisans Market

If your ears perk up at the words vintage, boho, or eclectic, then listen up. The Annapolis Artisans Market is this weekend and you won’t want to miss it. Local By Design has two huge warehouses full of local artisans and this is the one weekend a month it’s open for shopping.

Swing by 4–8 PM Friday or 10 AM–5 PM Saturday/Sunday at 1818 Margaret Avenue or 1805 C & D Virginia Avenue. With live music and adult beverages, this won’t be your average shopping trip.

SPONSORED BY DODGEBOW ANNAPOLIS.

Paging all Moms: Rainy days don’t have to be a bummer

Rainy days just met their match. It’s called DodgeBow and it’s taking Annapolis by storm. Pun intended. So what is it?

DodgeBow is a fusion of archery and dodgeball. The arrows are foam-tipped so getting hit doesn’t hurt. There’s no learning curve and the adrenaline rush is electrifying. It’s the ultimate destination for indoor fun in Anne Arundel County.

And here’s a special treat. When you make a group booking for 12 or more, use the coupon code NaptownScoop50 for $50 off as long as you book before June 30.

Book today at adodgebow.com or 443-214-3534.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

🪣 What’s red and looks like a bucket?

A red bucket, of course. What’s blue and looks like a bucket? A red bucket in disguise. OK so I’m not great at jokes. But Irwin Loring and magician/comedian combo Kevin Lee are. They’re coming to Annapolis to headline LOL Annapolis’ return to the Crowne Plaza hotel tonight at 7:30 PM. Tickets start at $22.50 but premium seats are available for $30.

Weekend staples

🍕🚚 Food Truck Friday. 11 food trucks take over the Anne Arundel County Farmers Market parking lot for your dinner. Perfect for date night, getting the kids out of the house, and meeting friends you haven’t seen in a while. 4–8 PM at 275 Harry S Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 21401.

💐 Wildberry Field Market. Over 50 local makers of all kinds (soap makers, candle makers, beer makers, tasty treat makers. . . you get it) convene at the beautiful Wildberry Farm in Crownsville for a Saturday morning market. Sunday if it rains Saturday. New this year: Wildberry’s very own farm-to-table food trailer. 9 AM–1 PM at 1047 Saint Stephens Church Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032.

✨ / 🍽️ Dinner Under the Stars. West Street shuts down between Church Circle and Calvert Street and all the restaurants move tables into the street. Very European and very fun. Live music by the Soul Journers. 6–10 PM.

🎤 Annapolis’ home-grown local music festival

We’re watching the weather closely, but we’re excited for Eastport a Rockin’ this Saturday. Much like me, the local music festival has been rockin’ since 1997. What’s on the lineup? 37 bands across 4 stages. Chesapeake region bands only. And no cover bands – although Airbud did do a cover of Pinegrove’s Old Friends last year that gave me chills. The music plays 11 AM–8 PM Saturday. Get your tickets.

Trivia time: Only one band has played every single Eastport a Rockin’ since the beginning. Who? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter.

I Got Somethin’ to Say and I’m Gon’ Say it

Since it’s probably gon’ rain Saturday, you might need some indoor entertainment. And if archery dodgeball (as seen in today’s local business section) sounds like a bit much, how ‘bout some spoken word poetry instead? Voice Actor Vincent Stovall is performing original poetry about family, love, racism, loss, joy, and laughter at the Banneker-Douglass Museum Saturday from 1–3 PM. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, and even if you don’t like the poetry, you’ll love hearing this guy talk for a couple hours. His voice is a 10/10.

Annapolis releases draft comprehensive plan

After 3 years and 100+ meetings, Annapolis Planning and Zoning has whipped up a draft comprehensive plan called Annapolis Ahead 2040. Comprehensive plans are documents that guide how cities identify, prioritize, and allocate resources. Maryland requires them from all county and city governments every 10 years following census data.

Annapolis’ plan forecasts land use, infrastructure, and community needs through three “visions”:

  • The Thriving City – Municipal growth, land use, and housing

  • The Functional City – Transportation, community facilities, and arts & culture

  • The Adaptive City – Environmental stability and water resources

Before the plan is finalized, Planning and Zoning has scheduled several public meetings.

  • 6/29 @ 6 PM (virtual)

  • 7/11 @ 6 PM @ Pip Moyer Recreation Center (Wards 5 & 6)

  • 7/12 @ 6 PM @ Eastport Neck Library (Wards 7 & 8)

  • 7/17 @ 6 PM @ Mount Olive AME Church (Wards 3 & 4)

  • 7/18 @ 6 PM @ Michael E. Busch Library (Wards 1 & 2)

🏉 Former Navy rugby coach makes Hall of Fame

Mike Flanagan coached rugby at the Naval Academy for 27 years. In that time he put up some serious numbers: 450+ wins, 43 All-Americans, and 23 playoff appearances. Those numbers were good enough to earn Mike a spot in the USA Rugby Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Mike!
