Blues break attendance record, Crab Cake Reviews return, new pizza shop on Main Street...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. This is Naptown Scoop – the newsletter that feels like crushing a dozen bottles of rosé with half a dozen friends during Sunday lunch in the garden. Sans hangover, of course.

Let’s get to it.

—Ryan Sneddon

P.S. Happy birthday to Ava Yensan! 🎂

How do you know it’s summer?

The official start of summer isn’t dictated by some astronomical phenomenon, when you can wear white pants, or even when the pool’s warm enough for Mom. None of that. Summer starts when Naptown Scoop publishes the first Crab Cake Review. So without further adieu, I present to you the first episode of Crab Cake Reviews Season 2 – Boatyard Bar & Grill.

P.S. Thanks a million to our longtime partner Blue Heron Property Services – the House Wash Pros – for believing in our crazy ideas and sponsoring season 2.

FaceTite: Only at Murthy Facial Plastic Surgery

Dr. Namita Murthy is pleased to introduce FaceTite. In fact, she’s the only facial plastic surgeon in Annapolis offering FaceTite. So, what is FaceTite?

Think of FaceTite like a facelift without big incisions.

For a normal facelift, Dr. Murthy cuts in the hairline near your temple and around your ear to the lower scalp. She redistributes fat and tissue, redrapes the skin, and trims the excess. Very safe, but still a major surgery.

With FaceTite, Dr. Murthy makes a series of pinhole incisions – so small they don’t even need stitches. She then liquefies fat with radiofrequency waves (which also stimulate collagen) and suctions it out. It’s done under local anesthesia with minimal recovery time.

FaceTite is a major breakthrough in facial contouring. Nothing else this minimally invasive even comes close to matching facelift results the way FaceTite does.

If your face and neck aren’t as tight as you’d like, schedule a comfortable consultation with Dr. Murthy today.

Quick Hits

This is what a record-breaking crowd looks like

It took Detroit City FC 4 years to set the National Premier Soccer League’s (NPSL) attendance record. The Annapolis Blues crushed it in their first game. The number to beat? 7,400. The number they got? 8,368. But my high school hockey coach used to say, “It’s not enough to win the fights. You have to win the game.” Good thing the Blues won 4–2 Saturday night in a thrilling comeback over Frederick FC under the lights.

Yes, that was a sonic boom

If you too were outside yesterday at 3:07 PM, you probably heard a tremendous noise and thought, “I hope that wasn’t BGE . . .” It wasn’t. NORAD F-16 fighter jets were given permission to go supersonic pursuing a Cessna private jet after it flew into restricted airspace over Washington, D.C.

After intercepting at 3:20 PM, the jet pilots couldn’t contact the pilot. A U.S. official told ABC News the jet pilots said the Cessna pilot appeared to be “passed out” at the controls. The plane crashed in the southwest Virginia mountains around 3:30 PM.

This Fairfax, VA couple was recording a music video at the exact moment the boom occurred.

Local Business

Now open on Main Street: TropQ Pizza

TropQ Pizza is now open on Main Street in the former Tutti Frutti space at 133 Main Street. They specialize in thin crust, personal (10-inch) pizzas. But it’s definitely not your average pizza shop. The walls are pink, you order from a robot kiosk, and they also sell ice cream made with owner Ty’s personal recipes. In addition to pizza and ice cream, TropQ offers smoothies and bowls, gluten-free pizza, and vegan ice cream. TropQ is open Monday–Saturday from 12–9 PM and Sunday from 12–8 PM.

Watermark’s taking that joyful noise on the water tomorrow evening for a signature sunset cruise. They say money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy a ticket for this. And that’s pretty much the same thing.*
