We have to end this 🦠

This year, about 13,720 American women will die from ovarian cancer. That’s thousands of mothers losing their daughters, thousands of kids losing their moms, thousands of families torn apart. We have to fight for a future without this horrible disease.

Together in TEAL is raising money for early awareness, quality of life, research, and community outreach. But above all, for a future where no one loses their life to this horrible disease.

We’ll walk for it together on October 8th, at the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s Together in TEAL Walk to End Ovarian Cancer at Westfield Annapolis. Join NOCC and save lives.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Mansion of many lives

George Washington strolled through it. Governors lived in it. The Naval Academy Alumni Foundation worked and entertained in it. Could Ogle Hall’s next life be a museum?

Virginia investors snagged Ogle Hall for $4.65 million in 2021. Then the city gave them 👍 to turn some of it into an inn, but 👎 to turn the rest into a social club.

Now, the investors are proposing a combined inn and historic home museum. The city is reviewing the proposal and accepting written comments through today. ($)

Oktoberfest in Annapolis

Garten. Join Garten for 3 weeks of food and drink specials, live music, and special events. $1 of every pretzel sold goes to a local charity. Saturday (9/17) through 10/7. 849 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146.

Forward Brewing. Eastport’s Forward Brewing says it’ll release its Oktoberfest beer the first weekend of October. Here’s hoping they offer special edition mugs again like last year.

Annapolis Beer Company launch party

Stan and Joe’s is hosting the launch of the Annapolis Beer Company this weekend. And yes, that is the same Annapolis Beer Company that generously donated kegs of beer to Scoop’s Third Anniversary Party. The star of the show is the Annapolis IPA. ABC Founder Dusty Poore says it’s perfect for boats, beaches, tailgates, and everything in between. Saturday (9/16) 3–10 PM at 37 West St, Annapolis, MD 21401.

  • Don’t let Google fool you. There’s a similarly-named beer maker in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. But Saturday’s beer is brewed in the Annapolis known for crabs, not scallops 🙃

National Treaty of Paris Festival

It’s been 240 years since the signing of the Treaty of Paris. Celebrate the anniversary with reenactments, activities, exhibits, and more. Saturday (9/16) from 10 AM–4 PM at Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library. 1410 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.

County Fair and Renn Fest

If nothing else in this email entices you, there are two other classic Anne Arundel County events this weekend, the County Fair and the Rennaisance Festival. You can buy tickets for both online.

We wrote a guide to the County Fair in Tuesday’s Scoop. Check it out.

Navy Football loses heartbreaker to Memphis

Despite a 28–24 loss, the Mids played a great football game last night. They outgained Memphis 432 yards to 408 and traded the lead back and forth all night. But at the end of a wild and thrilling fourth quarter, Memphis managed to come out on top. I can’t wait to hear Bill Wagner’s recap of this one on the Navy Football Podcast!
