Good morning, Annapolis. How ‘bout them O’s, eh? ⚾️

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Amazing Annapolis Hope news

  • Broadneck college fair

  • Scoop’s latest tee shirt

Let’s get to it.

Amazing news from Annapolis Hope 🏠

We first mentioned Annapolis Hope in Naptown Scoop less than a week ago and we are already up to almost $10k in donations.

  • Quick reminder: Annapolis Hope is the yearlong effort to prevent a family of 8 children who lost their father in a June shooting from losing their home too. It’s all explained here.

Yesterday we got some amazing news. An anonymous donor is matching the next ten $1,000 donations. So if you donate $1,000, it’ll really be like $2,000. If we can find 10 generous donors this week, that could get us to over 10% of the goal before we even have the kickoff event. Amazing.

  • If you want to be one of those 10, click here to donate and email your receipt of $1,000 to [email protected]. Please let us know if you would like your name or business recognized in the Scoop.

  • If you want to donate any other amount, click here

Reminder: The official Annapolis Hope kickoff event is October 10 at the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s Park Campus. Click here to join us.

Something Special on the South River

Ever wanted to live in a waterfront castle? Here’s your chance.

789 Sonne Drive is one in a million – 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms across 4,000 square feet sited high above the South River.

Aside from almost every room in the home having a water view, there are four distinct outdoor areas to enjoy your commanding views: a large main patio, an intimate elevated patio, covered decks on all three levels, and of course, the dock.

Speaking of the deep water dock, it’s equipped with a 40,000-pound lift so you can store almost any boat you want. There’s even a tram. Getting to the dock is as easy as pushing a button.

789 Sonne Drive is ready to be your home for under $2 million. Contact Brad Kappel for your private tour today.

THE DIGEST

What a $14 million renovation gets you

600-seat auditorium. Science labs. Acoustically perfect discussion rooms. Art studios. Offices. Sounds pretty good, right? St. John’s College thinks so, too. The college just wrapped up $13.75 million in renovations on Mellon Hall, the largest building on campus. The 100,000 sq. foot space is built to be all-purpose and preserves some of architect Richard Neutra’s original touch. ($)

Broadneck College Fair

Students and parents, it’s not too soon to think about what college colors you want to rock. In fact, some would say it’s right on time. Broadneck High School is hosting a college fair with 120 colleges on October 18 to get you started. Parents, there’s a financial aid talk at 6 PM. 😉

10/18, 6:30–8:30 PM. Registration is not required. 1265 Green Holly Drive, Annapolis, MD 21409.

LOCAL BUSINESS

The official TGAPSCC2023 shirt

Last week someone asked if “Drink Local or Die Trying” was a little . . . much since we’re just talking about local coffee. And I said, “Totally. But I am a little much.” So I’m stoked to show you the official shirts of TGAPSCC2023.

If you’re one of the first 25 to fill out a punch card, you’ll get one of these babies for free. One week in and we already have 10 cards filled out. If you’re punch card #26 or later, you get 25% off.

But anyone can buy a shirt right now for full price. And remember, proceeds support Annapolis Hope (more on that above) and the Rising Tide Society.

We’ve got 2 colors, they’re made with 100% organic cotton, and they’re printed right here in Annapolis by our friends at Blk Ankr Originals. Click here to shop the shirts!

Scoop’s Guide to the Annapolis Powerboat Show

The Annapolis Powerboat Show starts tomorrow. We’ll be there to show you what’s up if you aren’t lucky enough to get off work (or work at the show). Follow us on Instagram to come along.

If you’ve never been to the show (or even if you have), check out our unofficial guide. It’s got a few pro tips you won’t find in the official show guide.

P.S. If you see me (publisher Ryan) at the show, feel free to say hi! I love meeting Scoop readers :)

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Shuckin’ good music 🦪

The Anne Arundel Community Concert Association kicks off a new season tonight (10/4) at Severna Park High School at 7:30 PM. First up: the Eastport Oyster Boys. Annapolis actually named them the “musical goodwill ambassadors of the Chesapeake” because, we can only assume, the times and tunes are good. Season subscriptions are $70 and individual tickets at the door are $30.

Saddle up for The Light House

Get your cowboy boots ready. Bountiful Harvest is a country-themed party that funds The Annapolis Light House’s work addressing not just homelessness, but the root causes of the problem. There’s live music, an open bar, and a best boot contest. The rootin’ tootin’ fun goes down Friday 10/20 from 7–11 PM at the Atreeum at Soaring Timbers. Get tickets.

  • Scoop is a proud sponsor of this event! We’re just hoping that helps our chances in the best boot contest 🤠

Jazzed-up Disney

When you think Disney, do you think . . . jazz? If not, Maryland Hall is here to prove you wrong. When You Wish Upon A Star pays tribute to 100 years of Disney with live, jazzed-up standards for all ages. 11/5 at Maryland Hall. Tickets.

  • Still not convinced? When’s the last time you listened to this bop from The Aristocats and didn’t tap your paws?
