Good morning, Annapolis. This is Naptown Scoop, the newsletter that always sticks the landing. Can you tell we’re excited about the Olympics? 🇫🇷
In today’s Naptown Scoop:

Let’s get to it.
— Lauren Burke Meyer, Dylan Roche, Chelsea Harrison, & Ryan Sneddon
P.S. In honor of the Paris 2024 opening ceremony today, we’re using as many French-inspired words as possible in today’s newsletter.
Crabcake Review S4E6: Chessie’s Wharf 🦀
Cheers to our next Crabcake Review! 🍻 This week Chris and Ryan rendezvoused at Chessie’s Wharf of Annapolis, a restaurant and taproom with 38 draft beers in the charming village of West Annapolis. And not to toot our own horn but. . . beep beep. Intern Ella said it may be our funniest yet. Suffice it to say, Chris calling the crabcake a “Puffy little delight” won’t be soon forgotten. Check out the full review and rating!

Who doesn’t love happy hour?
Discounted snacks and drinks, catching up with friends, hanging with coworkers outside of the office. . . Now imagine all that with the best view in Annapolis.
There’s no better reward after a long day than snacks and drinks by the water, and The Choptank’s location is hard to beat. Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 3–6 at the Bar. Grab appetizers, oysters, or sandwiches and pair them with $4 beers, $7 wines, or $8 house spirits as you unwind and watch the endless parade of boats come through Ego Alley.
Whether you’re celebrating the end of the day or just starting the night, The Choptank is the place to be. Check out their happy hour menu!
THE DIGEST
Major Stories ⛵️🥚🦀🌽🍷
NBD, but we interviewed an Olympian this week. Annapolis native and Severn School alum Joe Morris fielded our Qs about the Rio 2016 games in the 49er Men’s Sailing, what it’s like to hang out in the Olympic Village, and he even gave us some insider info about the Paris 2024 sailing events. Don’t forget, the 2024 Summer Olympics’ Opening Ceremony prime time coverage starts tonight at 7:30 PM! USA! USA! USA! 🇺🇸 🥇
We also celebrated Buy Local Week. Think of it as Maryland pride, food edition. Here are the local spots we highlighted:
Morris Hill Farm: responsibly raised meats like chicken, eggs, duck, beef, turkey, and lamb 🐔 🥚 🦆 🐄 🦃 🐑
Wild Country Seafood: fresh crabs, shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels, and scallops 🦀 🦐 🦪
Good Luck Farm: freshly grown leafy greens, broccoli, corn on the cob, garlic bulbs, strawberries, peaches, and beautiful plants 🥦 🌽 🧄 🍓 🍑
Great Frogs Winery: refreshing wines from a beautiful vineyard with unique events 🍷
Top clicks of the week 🏆
Monday: It's Buy Local Week 🌽🍳 🦀 : Morris Hill Farm
Tuesday: Buy Local Week: Wild Country Seafood 🦀 🦪 🍤
Wednesday: Jersey Mike’s and Moby Dick 🥪
Thursday: Q&A with Annapolis Olympian Joe Morris 🇺🇸
Buy Local Week: Wildberry Farm + Market 🥚 🍅
It’s no secret we’re BIG fans of Wildberry Farm + Market. So naturally, we thought of them as our finale for day 5 of Buy Local Week. Catch their famous field market tomorrow (7/27) from 9 AM–1 PM. It’s Wildberry and about 60 other small business partners for a morning of shopping small on the farm! Leashed dogs are always welcome. 🐕 — 1047 St Stephens Church Rd, Crownsville, MD
Guess what? Buy Local Week may be ending, but you can still aim to incorporate locally grown, produced, or harvested products into your meals. Check out Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation’s (AAEDC) 2024 Farmer’s Market Guide to find a market near you. Keep it going! 🙌🏻
Learn to drive at . . . the library? 🚦
Anyone who’s ever had to take a new driver out for a lesson knows it can be scary. Now the Busch Library on West Street has a new way to approach that can take the stress level down a few notches. A driving simulator lets new drivers get used to being behind the wheel while they’re in the comfort (i.e. safety) of the library. An Xbox controller refurbished into a steering wheel prompts three surrounding screens that mimic the sides of car on the road. It’s a perfect option for anyone 14 years old or older who wants to improve their driving skills without actually getting on the road.

Where were we Wednesday? 📸
ANSWER: Hats off to those of you who picked up on the lifeboats clue on this one. Yes, we were at City Dock and yes, we were on a boat, but if you guessed on the top deck of Watermark’s Catherine Marie, you guessed right! Thanks for playing and congrats to @smel18, @alcrame, and @chetgoudy for being the first 3 to answer correctly. And extra credit to @smel18 for specifying the deck!
Where will we be next Wednesday? What if we told you we were going back in time? 🤯 . . .
